How do I import and export my contacts?

ok i know this is total herp derp question but... i cant figure this out.

i have all my contacts saved to my phone. how do i get them to

a) to my google/gmail account
b) to my tablet Galaxy Tab 2 with Ice Cream Sandwich
c) to a new phone (Galaxy S3 when it comes out)

The below was written for HTC phones on Gingerbread, the export part may need tweaking slightly for the Captivate, but the rest of the process should be the same:

1. Disconnect the phone from the PC
2. Open The Phone Book
3. Hit Menu
4. Import/Export
5. Export to SD
6. Select PHONE or SIM account (dependant on where you store your numbers)
7. Wait for the .vcf file to be created (it should be created on the root of the SD Card, not in any folders).
8. Connect the phone to the PC as a Disk Drive
9. Copy the .vcf file you just created on to the desktop of your PC.
10. Unmount/Disconnect the phone from the PC
11. Log into the gmail account associated with the phone in your browser
12. Hit Contacts (in the top left hand side of the page)
13. More Actions
14. Import
15. Select the file you've just copied to your PC, let it upload
16. Click Contacts again, you should see the contacts from your phone listed.
17. Perform a Sync on your phone, it will download the contacts to your phone again so you'll end up with a few duplicates, but after your phone sorts itself out, then they'll link themselves.

HOWEVER...

i followed your direction up to step 9. the problem i am having is that it only makes a .vcf file for "AT&T Check Bill Balance" which is weird because when i wait for the .vcf file to be created it shows that all 200+ of my contacts are being saved.

any suggestions?
 
i have also gone to contact, settings, import/export, send namecard via, then checked select all, and tried emailing them to myself but again only one is sent.

I think where you are getting hung up is on the vCard. All your contacts will be there when you import them into the new phone, but if you try and view the card in Outlook you will only see the first one in the list. I would guess that AT&T Billing is your first contact.

you are correct sir.

the .vcf file was on my desktop and if i double click it to open the file all i see is a vcard for ATT check bill or whatever. but... if i right-click and open with excel and everything was there.
 
Kies won't work with an LG phone, that's for Samsung phones only.

Are you trying to backup your contacts from your phone to your PC or do you actually want the contacts available in outlook (or whatever you use)?

The above procedure for exporting as a vCard should work as long as your desktop app can import vCards.
 
Google account is widely used on Android devices. Actually it can also be added to iOS devices. If you have always used Google account on your Android device for syncing data, you can sign in the same account on iPhone and sync Android contacts to iPhone. Make sure your Android contacts have been synced to Google. Then add the same account to iPhone and turn on “Contact” sync.
