I'm going to have a naked screen for a week until I get the screen protector replaced, and I would like some tips on preventing scratches.

Might I ask why you don't keep the current protector on until the reticent arrives (or is it warranty related for the protector)?

From what I understand, the Epic 4G uses Corning's Gorilla Glass (CORNING
You don't need no stinking screen protector. I've dropped mine a few times, and keep it in my pocket naked, and no scratches what so ever. Screen protectors only take away from the brilliance of the screen.
Unless you have a beach in your pocket, you'll be fine.
I use a case but not a protector and I have dropped my phone a few times with minimal damage to the case and zero damage to the screen.
Tell that to the single speck of dust that caused a scratch.

Mine started to peel and dust was collecting under it, so I had to remove it. These things are useless once they're removed, so they need to be replaced. I had it on ever since September, so I guess it's just been worn out.

There were quite a few who had the same attitude as you, and then posted later that they were wrong and their baby was scratched.
I recently stopped using a phantom skinz screen protector. I went for a while (weeks) without a scratch. Now I've noticed a few. Only thing I can think of is keys which caused them, not sure. They aren't bad, can't see them unless you're looking for them when the screen is off.
And a new and more visible scratch today. Lovely.
My wife's diamond earrings are starting to scratch her screen a little bit. Who'da thunk it?
