Root How do i properly edit (build prop)

Okay so I'm trying to edit Build prop to change the metro block tether from true to false.
And evrey time I tryied either did not save or will not boot.
I was told you have to cold reboot after editing.

Yes and also using ES

after you make the changes make sure you set it back to read only.

I used Root Explorer to change my build prop, you can change it R/W with this app but you dont really have to becasue after the change to build prop is made and save the phone will reboot itself if its set as R/O. if you switch it to R/W, you have to make the changes, save the changes, switch back to R/O and then reboot. i imagine it would be the same with ES

Have you tried the build.prop editor in the app rom toolbox. It is very easy to use. Also it prompts you to reboot your device after you edit a selection.

What i do to edit my build prob is extract it from my rom onto my computer then make the changes and put the updated build.prop on my sdcard, overwrite the old build.prop and change the permissions. If you have the wrong permissions you'll run into issues
