How do i reformat my sd card?

I am getting "SD card blank or has unsupported fiesystem" on my notification bar, i press it it gives a message and i press "format" and nothing happens

Press Menu
Settings
SD
click unmount SD
click the option underneath

i tried that nothing happend, i romoved and put back the card and now it works
