Before you start flashing ROMs like crazy, please read the hundreds of pages of comments from other users. They all start with:
DUDE!!! You are a GOD!! This is the sickest, fastest ROM I EVER tried...
and then end with:
but I've noticed a couple of things. My battery is dead in an hour and a half, I can't download any pdf files, bluetooth doesn't work, and the phone won't work on Tuesdays.
Just... beware.
Right there, you are being half informed... misinformed, depending on your phone. The one-click methods only work on Skyrockets that are still running Gingerbread version 2.3.5. If yours has been updated to 2.3.6, you will need to look at more complicated methods. Like I said... a LOT of reading to do. A "supposedly" "competent" "developer," who I happen to think is just a jackass, toasted his phone rooting and ROMing things a day or two ago.
If everything doesn't go exactly as planned... that includes the remote possibility of power outages during the sometimes lengthy procedures, you can end up "soft-bricked", which will send you scurrying around trying to find a piece of hardware called a "jig" that plugs into the phone's USB port to get it in some sort of state that you may be able to restore it... or you could end up "hard-bricked," which means you are now the proud owner of an $800 paperweight.
Read ALL the disclaimers well. They are usually written better than the instructions for doing whatever it is you may want to do.

Just a thought here from the don't want to root side of the fence; I just create a folder for all of the bloatware and put all of the apps I don't want to see and scroll through in that folder. That way I only have one unnecessary icon in the app screens.
Granted this is not the same as removing (which appears to be a no-no for some apps anyway), just a quick easy way to get them out of sight![]()
