Root How Do I Revert to Stock?

Hey guys, I'm trying to revert back to stock before I take in my Rezound this weekend. I have the stock 2.01.605.11 RUU .zip file, but I'm not sure if there's anything special I need to do?

The ROM I have on atm is CleanROM ICS by Scott.

I'm new to this stuff (got the phone two weekends ago) so I need a pretty detailed guide and not just terms and whatnot. :P

I rooted using HTCDev if this matters. I know either way it'll show up the phone has been rooted previously but I don't think that Best Buy will check as long as everything looks stock. I also pay the extra $10 a month for BestBuy warranty.

Thanks everyone! :)

Edit: Also, I did indeed look at the "All Things Root Guide" sticky, but I did not understand the link to unrooting. :o

first you need to relock by opening a comand window, change tot he folder with adb/fastboot,and plug in your phone with usb debugging checked, like you you unlocked.

type adb devices in your command window. if you get a serial number back, then youre connected :)

type adb reboot bootloader to put your phone in fastboot mode

when the screen with the while letters appears, type fastboot oem lock

your bootloader will relock, and depending on the extent of the mods in your ROM,your hboot will prolly know, and give you a security warning. at this point run your RUU. i would reccomend running the .exe file over a PH98IMG. just download, run as administrator, then plug your phone in when it tells you(if its plugged in from locking youre good to go). please note that with the hboot locked and the security warning, you are locked into hboot. your phone will not reboot into custom firmware while its locked,so you are stuck in hboot until you either re-unlock,or run the RUU.

the Rom Updater Utility will flash the current firmware and then reboot to a freshly reset stock rom.

be aware that your hboot will show relocked now,and will always be a tattletale for anyone who cares enuff to check your hboot status. to my knowledge there is no way to change this on s-on phones :(

hope that helps :)

Thanks for the response! When you say "change to the folder with adb/fastboot" what do you mean by this?

Can I restore from the stock backup nandroid then remove root?

Also, is there a step-by-step guide somewhere that I can go off of?

Thanks.

did you unlock with htcdev? if so,you just need to follow the directions like you did when you unlocked, except this time in that command window youll type fastboot oem lock

to unlock with htcdev, you should have created a folder with adb and fastboot utilities, and a few other things in it. this is the same folder you put your unlock token in. you just need to open a command window like you did the first time. if you rooted some other way, well go from there ;)

there is not much point in restoring your backup,as running the .exe file will wipe everything anyway.

there is prolly a "return to stock guide" some place, ill see if i can find one.

Yes, I did unlock using HTCDev.com. The only folders I have are "Unlock Tools" (adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, fastboot.exe), and "android-sdk-windows" which has all ADK & SDV manager and all of the installed stuff in that folder.

So basically, I just go back to HTCDev, follow the instructions the exact same but this time instead type in "fastboot oem unlock" which will relock my phone. After that I do what with the stock .zip file?

if you are using a PH98IMG ,then you will need to put it on your sd card, then power on into hboot to let it flash with your relocked hboot. you can prolly put it onto your sd card prior to relocking, then select "bootloader" with the phones power button after you relock to flash it.

another option would be to power off or pull the battery after the relock, then put PH98IMG onto the sd card with a card reader. if you use a .exe file, all youll have to do is run it on your PC as adminstrator after the relock. :)

Hmmm........ Anyone have a link to the 2.01.605.11 RUU .zip file? I seem to be missing it! :o

If you find me a site to upload it to, I'll upload it and send you the link in a PM. :)

@scotty85 Where is the PH98IMG.zip? Do you mean if I'm using a PH98IMG.zip with this custom ROM?

Sorry for not really knowing much. New to all of this. :o

the PH98IMG is what i thot you were calling "the stock .zip".

there are 2 ways to install factory htc firmware:
1) in hboot,by renaming the file to be flashed "PH98IMG",then booting to hboot for it to find and flash

2)by running a .exe file on your PC.

#2 would be my personal recomendation,it usually is easier. download the .exe file from here: FileFactory Premium

I can't download the .exe as I'm not a premium member. :(

So if I just rename the stock firmware to "PH98IMG" from "RUU_Vigor..."? Thanks for helping me out by the way! :)

i feel your pain. i am unable to download alot of RUUs that id like to as well :( i dont know whats up with filefactory. just a few days ago i was able to download that RUU and im not a premium member.

if you downloaded the stock firmware from the wupload link above, then yes. rename to "PH98IMG" if youre using windows and place it on your sd card, not inside any folders. it must be on the top level(called the "root" level) for the phone to find it. your sd card must also be formatted FAT32. not FAT,or something else,so check that before you get started by connecting to your PC as a disc drive. right click on the drive that is your SD card, click properties.

last and not least, make sure youre putting PH98IMG onto the sd card, not your phones internal memory. :)

im currently uploading the .exe if youd rather wait for that.it really is much more painless ;)

Thanks a lot Scotty, again!

Alright so, I first need to relock the phone using HTCDev but this time putting in "fastboot oem lock" which will relock the phone, then I download that .exe, rename to "PH98IMG" (or is it "PH98IMG.zip"?) then reformat SD as FAT32, I can restore from this file?

Do I even need to relock the phone as long as I put back on stock when I take it into the store? Because either way, won't they be able to tell if it's been rooted or not if they bother to check?

you will need to relock in order to run a whole RUU or PH98IMG.

1)download .exe so its ready to go
2)relock
3)once you are relocked run the .exe as administrator on your PC. just leave the phone in fastboot. once its finished it will reboot to factory fresh stock.

and yes, they can tell either way,as your hboot is now relocked instead of locked. so if they look, they can tell that youve unlocked and relocked it.

if you have a nandroid of your stock, unrooted rom,you could restore that and leave it unlocked if you want. even if your stock nandroid is rooted, just restore it and delete the superuser app from your app drawer. its up to you wether or not this is worth the risk,vs relocking and running the RUU

tricky tricky.. LOL still get main version error

well,im completely confused then  the ruu should still work.

i dont see why you have to do this, but since youre getting a main version error, heres what id do:
1)re-unlock with your original code
fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin
2)boot a working rom. if you were in a working rom,the unlock will just factory reset whatever you were running. otherwise you may have to install a recovery, then install a rom to get it working.
3)put the phone in fastboot, open cmd window
4)type fastboot getvar all and check your "main version" number. if you find it to be 3.xx.xxx.x then procede
5)down load this new misc image: http://db.tt/twAtY6M7 (from this thread)
6)boot back into your working rom
7)place the new misc image onto your sd card
8)put in charge only mode, then enter the following:
adb devices

adb shell

dd if=/sdcard2/miscnew.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p24

exit

adb reboot bootloader

fastboot getvar all

9)hopefully your main version has changed to 1.00.000.00. if so,then procede

10) fastboot oem lock

11)try PH98IMG for 2.01.605.11 again

12)collect underpants

13) ???

14)profits! :D

let me kow how it goes. bedtime soon, but ill look 1st thing in the am if doze off :)

Yeah, I still have my backup nandroid which I don't believe still has superuser. Well, I'll either do this later tonight when I finish my AP World homework or tomorrow after school.

Thanks. :)

that guide is not alot different than what i was telling you to do,with exception that i was trying to help you use files you allready had on your PC,in the same manner you did prior, instead of downloading more stuff and giving more commands that you didnt know what they mean.

sorry if i didnt explain it clearly enuff. :(

at any rate, glad you got it :)
