Root How do I root my Droid X?

How would I go about rooting my Droid X and whats everybody mean when they say bricking your phone? And what can I do when I root it that I couldn't do before?

Also is there anyway I can completely back up my phone onto my computer or my SD card??

If your phone is up to date (Settings>About phone. System version 2.3.340) then download Z4root at this site [APP] z4root - xda-developers

It is by far the easiest root method. Read through the forum. You wil want to download some free apps that only work with root like Titanium Back up I would always suggest you eventually buy the paid version because you always get your $$$ worth and we need to support these developers. They do fantastic work.
