Root How do i root with s-off already off

gad74

Lurker
So when i unrooted and upgraded to ics, i noticed that after the update, i have s-off. what do i do from here? do i still start from step one of here : http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/689221-how-downgrade-root-ics.html

I have rooted before but forgot how. Is there a simpler way since it is already s-off. Please help....

This is what is says in the boot menu:
-Revolutionary-
Mecha XD ship s-off
hboot- 6.04.1002
microp-/
radio-2.03.00.0201r
emmc-boot

did you actually OTA with the revolutionary hboot in place? if so thats the first case ive heard of that working. most folks were getting stuck when the phone couldnt replace hboot with the new one.

to answer your question:
-install recovery as a PG05IMG
-flash superSU in recovery(or flash a custm rom)

download recovery of choice from here:
http://androidforums.com/thunderbol...0-radios-recoveries-hboot-updated-9-24-a.html or from xda

download latest superSU from this thread on xda (the download link is where is says: CWM installable ZIP: CWM-SuperSU-v0.xx.zip )

rooting with s off is pretty easy :)

is it possible to just put the files for supersu on the root of the card. and then is it rooted?
this is what i have tried:
1. i downloaded cwm touch from the website(btw i have the htc thunderbolt, obviously)
2. i followed this website from step 1
Root Motorola Xoom WiFi on ICS Android 4.0.3 Firmware Custom Recovery but it said could not load recovery.img in the cmd

What im currently trying:
using the revolutionary tool to flash cwm
it worked. now i have to findout how to flash the superSu
it keeps saying "An error has occured while attempting to run priveledged commands"
last time i clicked on recovery, it tried to factory reset it and i dont want that again

You're making it way harder on yourself than it needs to be ;)

-download a recovery from the link I provided
-rename the zip file "PG05IMG"
-put it on your sd card
-boot to hboot. It should find the file and ask you to update. Reboot when finished
-immediatly remove pg05img from the sd card

You can now boot to recovery and flash the supersu zip file

If revolutionary has reinstalled your recovery, just boot to it,wipe cache and dalvik cache, and flash supersu

WOW!!!!! thank you so much, before you replied, i did the last step you provided, and it worked!!!! I gave thanks to all your comments!!!! I finally have root again! Your awesome and quick at replying!!:):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :D:D And i happy that i already had s-off so that i didnt have to downgrade! wonder why that was. but one more question, i set a backup but it stays at backing up system...
it usually show the bar with scrolling lines, but nothing. So its not backing up...

I think i sorta relate to this problem, I mistakenly hit ok for the ICS OTA, on my rooted phone, now I'm stuck in a boot loop. I can get to the menu for recovery, but when I hit the power button to choose it the phone reboots. Tried one of those ruu's on the sd card and its still looping.

What i did was unroot because it wouldnt let me update unless i was unrooted. Did you try using revolutionary?
try this:http://androidforums.com/thunderbol...-seem-stuck-waiting-recovery.html#post5719806

wiping caches should stop the bootloops. if you have successfully flashed an ruu,and no longer have a custom recovery, select "factory reset" from the hboot menu
