Help How do I stop any app connecting when using 'data' connection?

I will soon be switching from a contract to 'pay as you go' and want to make sure that when I connect to 'data' no app or part of my mobile will connect to the internet to update etc.

Is this possible?

if you are only using apps from Play Store ...

In the Play Store app ... go to Settings |Auto-update apps and chose either Do not auto-update apps or Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only.

I always set Do not auto-update apps and once a day (when I choose) I run the update of all apps that are pending.

Don't some apps connect to the internet (sending info back and forth) and I would not know about it (that's just how they operate)?

I use a firewall that limits apps to when they connect to 3g/2g data and/ or who connect when on wifi. I allow more apps to connect to WiFi and limit those who connect via 3g data

I highly recomend this app. it also speeds up the connect due to limited loads of apps getting data only the one you want get it when you want.
