Help How do I turn off email notification?

I have seen threads for other HTC to turn off the email notification sound but cant see a satisfactory answer. I have turned off the notification sound option in email settings but it still sounds. Anyone help?
 
Which app are you using, the Gmail app or the native app ??

menu, personalize and look at the sounds in the sound set. there is a way to change that if one still lingers however i dont remember how.
 
Spoke to HTC and they say separate email and SMS notification cant be done. I found a workaround though by using a silent wav file for the main notification sound then going into messaging and selecting a sound/MP3 etc.
