Help How do I turn off the phone connection

How do I turn off the phone connection? I want to turn off all wireless connections except for the GPS for when I visit India next week. If I use the Airplane mode to turn off all wireless connections I cant activate the GPS.

I also have added both power bars as widgits and when I turn everything off (Mobile, WiFi, AutoSync and Roaming) I can still make phone calls.

What am i missing here? Is there an app i can download that will turn everything off but the GPS?

I was gonna come in here and suggest Airplane Mode, but I guess you've already tried that. I wasn't aware that turning Airplane Mode on would disable you from being able to use the GPS.

I figured out how to make this work, You need to add the power bar widget which allows you to turn on\off the wi\fi, bluetooth, gps, syncing and screen brightness. You also need to add the roaming icon. When in Airplane mode you can use the power bar widget to turn on and off the Wi/Fi and GPS functions to use them, and still be in Airplane mode. In my case here in India I dont want my phone connected all the time so I need to toggle off Airplane mode AND activate the roaming mode when I want to make calls or send and recive text messages.
