Root How do I uninstall G apps/bloatware?

Chris6565

I rooted my droid 1 thinking that I could easily remove bloatware or G apps that I don't want. I can't figure out how to do it though....Is there an app for that?

Titanium Backup off the market will uninstall system apps. be careful as some of the google apps are needed for others to work. Or, you could load a ROM that has all those apps removed from the start. What was the reason you rooted in the first place? just to remove apps?

I rooted so that I could uninstall the music app. I was hoping to test the new app for honeycomb. Hopefully I don't break my phone

You can also do it through root explorer or terminal emulator. System apps are located in /system/app. Terminal Emulator is free. Root Explorer is not.

Go into Terminal Emulator and type in su and then hit enter. You'll be asked to give it super user permissions, accept this dialog. Then type in busybox and hit enter.
Use the following command to go to the right folder: cd /system/app
Then to list the apps you have present: ls
Use the following command to remove (and backup) an app: mv ./[name of app.apk] ./[name of app.bak] ; Example: If I wanted to remove Email.apk, I would do mv ./Email.apk ./Email.bak

Note that all these commands are case sensitive.

Well, I thought that I rooted but it turns out that I never did. I used easyroot and it says that it rooted and I just need to restart the phone but it isn't working So I guess I never really rooted

This is why I hate one-click rooting methods. They're all flaky.

But anyway, you can check if you're rooted or not by seeing if you have the Superuser Permissions app in your drawer.

Easyroot was using the old sqlite exploid and stopped working at 2.2/FRG01B. Once we were upgraded to 2.2/FRG22D things changed. There's two different ways to root your phone now. Either use RSD Lite 4.6 and the custom .sbf and update.zip files created by Motocache1, or one of the methods that uses the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin file.

I would point you to more info on these, but I still haven't figured out how to make a sig here, lol.

Oh yeah, and in the spirit of the original question, I suggest you make sure to read this:

Is there a list of apps which are okay to remove?

I am assuming the following could be without issue. Amazan mp3's, Visual VM, Twitter, and Facebook. Any others?

Interestingly enough, that link says not to remove DrmProvider.apk, but I always do, just because I figure that I don't need space taken up to provide for DRM-laden crap media files that I don't use anyway.

I suppose if you buy video/audio from an online store...
