Ok might be a stupid question, but with all this talk about new updates, how does one update their Droid X? is it automatic? does my X passively find an update and notifies me?

Hit the menu button from the main screen, then Settings. Scroll to the bottom of the list and click About Phone, then click System updates. ANd it will search for new updates.
For apps in the market, i just chech the My Downloads area of the market a few times a day and find updates often
