How do I upgrade from Android 2.2.2 to 2.3?

I have an old Motorola Droid phone from a years back. Still works. I'd like to upgrade it to android 2.3. How do I go about doing that?

You might ask why I want to do that? Because I am developing an app with cocos2d-x and it is my understanding that it supports android 2.3 as a minimum . I want to us this old Droid to verify my app runs on older, slower devices.

I own the phone outright with no contracts. I would be ok rooting it if that is necessary.

Root, install custom recovery, flash ROM. sadly that's the case with most upgrades to Android unless you own a Nexus.

Welcome to Android Forums.

What "Droid phone" model are you asking about?

Was 2.3 ever released by the manufacturer/carrier for that phone?

Welcome to Android Forums, mmsood99! :)

I think Nick's reply is right on target, however it's possible that other owners of the Droid may have more ideas. So let's move this to the Droid board and see what happens! :D

I don't have the original Droid.

All the specs that I find don't indicate anything above 2.2.

Perhaps someone who has one could clarify if 2.3 was ever made available for the original Droid.

An official 2.3 OTA was never released for the Droid. If you want 2.3, you will have to root it, install custom recovery such as clockworkmod, and install a 2.3 ROM.
