How do you add/use oversized icons?

I'm trying to find out how to use oversized icons dfor shortcuts or widgets. I have desktop visualizer, but it apparantly cannot change the icons for widgets.

I was hoping to make the beautiful brightness widget about twice the size, so its easier to see in bright sunlight, or dark situations.

I also wanted to double the size of the music icon, or replace it with a larger one instead.

Any suggestions?

I've seen people with what looks like larger icons on items in the show your screen thread, and I though desktop visualizer was what people used for that.
