How do you set alert tones?

I'm sure you can do it, but man I give, I can't figure it out... how do you set different custom tones for text messages, vms, emails, etc...? Sorry if this is obvious!

I downloaded Handcent and was able to set incoming alert tones with no problems. Just have to disable the standard text alert and notification.

messages--menu--settings!! dont need to download any app to do it...
