Help How do you update his phone?

TheTrueSpin

Android Enthusiast
I have tried using the OTA option like I used to on my Desire. No luck.

I have tried using Kies, but there is no option to check or update firmware.

I am still running Android version 2.3.3. I understand there is a newer version but seemingly no way to upgrade?

Phone is unlocked and unbranded.

Could you go to your dial pad and type in the following..

*#1234#

Could you then reproduce the 4 lines of information that are shown on the screen.

PDA: I9100XWKF3

PHONE: i9100XXKE7

CSC: I9100XEUKD1

Gosh! That is a very early firmware for an unbranded UK (European phone).

The latest official firmware I can find for your phone is 2.3.5 on XXKI4, which you can flash using Odin v1.85.

Full details of how to do this, with a step-by-step guide and the downloads, are shown here:-

[ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH1/2/3/4, KI1/2/3/4/8, KJ1/2 Download - xda-developers

The download for XXKI4 is in post #2.

Please read the instructions very carefully. You do not have to root your phone for this.

Hope this helps. :D

This is what confuses me so much.

To upgrade my phone I have to use third party software and firmware downloaded from non-samsung websites? There also seems that making a simple mistake can brick my phone.

Am I the only one that thinks this is madness?

With the Android phones I have had in the past, I just check for updates and... well, that's it.

I'd say I'm fairly tech savvy (been with Android since the start), but I really feel a little bit lost with the upgrade process for the SG2.

Plan B.

You could try taking it to a Samsung Service Centre near you and see if they will update it for you under warranty.

You are not alone in this problem. There are, it seems, a few firmwares that do not seem to be able to update via Kies.

Hopefully a firmware update will solve this problem for you once you have the latest installed.

Thanks for your help. I will have to give the manual update a go. I might e-mail samsung to see what they say... out of interest

Hi guys, first post here.
Just to go on with the thread above, I have a Voda GS2 which has been unlocked, currently on TPG (Optus network) with 2.3.3
When i try the *#1234# combo, I get:

PDA: I9100TDUKF4
Phone: I9100TDUFK4
CSC: I9100TVAUKF4

Now when i got inot both Kies or the software update on the phone, there is an update for me to:
PDA: KH1
Phone: KF4
CSC: KG2 (VAU)

Now should i go on with it? Is it a new android version? Will it help battery life? Thanks in advance guys, total android noob atm :P

After have digited #*1234* my S2 displayed:

PDA I9100XWKF3
PHONE I9100XXKF1
CSC I9100OJVKF3

I would appreciate if you could say why when I'm going to Software update- check for update, the phone says "CONNECTION FAILED".

I'm currently in Brazil and have bough my S2 in USA 3 weeks ago.
Using Odin and third part softwares is the only way to update S2?

Thanks in advance!

Franklim
