How does 'Push' email affect battery life?

As compared to say, sync every 15 mins, how does push email compare as far as battery life goes? I've seen vastly conflicting reports on this

well if it was real push it would be a lot better on battery life, since there is no constant polling of the account. i'm not exactler certain how push works but i know it is better on battery life than having to sync because of that fact. however, i don't think that what google has can be considered push because in order for "push" to work, you need to have autosync on. this is my one and only gripe about the android OS.

I probably depends on how much mail you are receiving and they type of account you are using and the app (or client). Gmail, Yahoo and Exchange are ones I use and all three have push.

Syncing and Push are not two entirely different things. Push email is just one way of syncing email. With Push the mail will show up on the clients as they are received, i.e. pushed to the clients. With polling, the messages only show up when polled, i.e. when the client asks for them.
