How does your Atrix handle Live Wallpapers?

Hey guys... I am extremely disappointed at my "beast".... I can barely go through 12 hrs of battery life with minimal use, but that's not what's bothering me: It's how the homescreen transitions and app drawer animations frame rates seem to drop to half when I have a live wallpaper on!

Everything becomes noticeably choppy, and significantly less responsive. Even waking the phone up using the power button takes a few seconds.

Is that normal? Or is mine a dud? I have a non-rooted, non-deodexed, non-updated Bell Atrix, with Launcher Pro Plus (same thing happens with Go Launcher EX)

How did your Atrix manage live wallpapers? Is Tegra 2 that miserable?

I own an Atrix and it seemed to have a problem with the Launcher Pro. I used the free version of it and the home screen was silky smooth (though I didn't use a live wallpaper). At first everything was fine, but then my phone's battery life started decreasing. If I left my phone alone with nothing running overnight (obviously since I'm sleeping), my phone would lose about 40% of its battery life when I woke up (approx 6-7 hours of standby). It would also be somewhat hot. Also, for some reason I suddenly had no access to the data network while using Launcher Pro. Nothing I did seemed to get me reconnected...

Once I uninstalled Launcher Pro, everything went back to normal. Battery life is good and I have data access once again.

Try uninstalling your Launcher Pro for a while and see if that fixes things.

^^Highly doubt Launcher Pro is the culprit. You've got something else going on. I've been using Launcher Pro since day 2 (gave MotoBlur a shot) and I've always been one to have great battery life and only lose 3% over night. I've even had PowerAmp running over night and woke up with 85% battery left.

As far as the live wallpaper goes, yes I notice the slowdown. However, I don't use live wallpapers. They're silly and use more battery than they're worth.

I was wondering, for you peeps, if the issue is with the stock live wallpapers or with 3rd party live wallpapers? I've never had issues with the stock LWP but I remember I had issues with lag with some 3rd party LWP.

No issues here with the included Atrix WPs, LPP WPs or any of the aftermarket WPs. Sounds like a hardware issue with your Atrix perhaps.

I can attest to noticing once I loaded LP Plus, my battery drained double the speed it was initially for the week I had it just using blur. Had the same apps so it wasn't a rogue app or anything. It's kind of a bummer and I'm still not sure what to do, I since took LP Plus off and the battery is running great again- hoping to later learn some tweaks to it that can enable me to use it, till then I can't take that battery hit. So, it's definitely not just you.

And doesn't it bother you that your dual-core expensive phone shows slowdowns and choppy transitions with Live Wallpapers (unlike a single core Nexus S, for instance)?

Sure it does but since I don't and won't use live wallpapers, I don't worry about it. I don't notice slowdown anywhere else where it counts. They need to optimize the phone better definitely but live wallpapers are my last concern.

It's launcher pro dude. Motoblur seems to work the best, alternative launchers seem to bog it down a bit.

Motoblur app drawer does work better with the live wallpaper but that's due to the lack of animations within it. It still moves slower in the app drawer with a live wallpaper than without. Live Wallpapers slow down this phone regardless of launcher.

I use launcher pro and had a live wallpaper for a while...I never noticed lag to where it matters or bothers me! I stoped using a live wallpaper due to excessive battery drain...and once the novelty of it wore off!

the one that handles my games and media like a champ? nope, not at all.

correct. I don't use them on my PC either and my PC can handle them. My PC's screensaver is the stock "blank" screen. My phone is for voice/text/surfing/email with the odd game or video when I'm waiting for something/someone. I know, very unusual for a phone right? :p
Not for looking at a picture of a spinning galaxy for 0.5 seconds between launching the above listed applications. You'll notice that none of the 100 pages in the "post your android theme" are using LWP so I'm betting nobody cares.

That's because those members love to customize and you can't really customize with a LWP ;)

Notice a considerable lag when I use The Matrix LWP.

I love the live wallpaper, but after downloading a few to try(free and paid), I could not find one that wouldn't significantly drain the life from my battery. I don't have a problem with any "choppiness", but I wasn't game for charging every night.

Live wallpaper should not eat more than 10% of your battery if all you're doing is unlock, swipe to the homescreen with your app/widget and open app/widget. So CPU times usually couple of seconds. For most Android phones, it's very normal to charge it at night but for most people, it's GETTING the phone to last from when they wake up (6am) to when they go to bed (11pm/12pm). So if you get around 18+ hrs on your phone, then count yourself as lucky.

I use a 3rd party live wall paper called Aquarium. I noticed that when coming out of sleep mode, scrolling thru home screens and the app drawer is a little laggy as well as viewing all home screens at once. (I use ADW Launcher, home replacement app.)

By the way, this is what I mean by the choppy transitions with LWPs:

My dual processor expensive phone (Atrix) doesn't slowdown or has choppy transitions with live wallpapers, sounds like bad intel, or early resolved issues perhaps.
