How have you dealt with the heat?

Its not the greatest AC I have, its one of those floor types that have a vent hose that you place the end of in a window frame-I have a flower box in it(not my idea, trust me), and of course if a window AC was put there it'd be redundant. So yeah, on Friday I have the window frame right down on the vent hose, but its a so-so AC, I think the overwhelming heat was just more than it could handle, again, it only could bring the ambient temp in my room down to like 88-90, whereas outside it was 99-101. So, go figure. THANK GOD its over I hope, its nice having spent the last few days being able to breathe in my own home.

A/C. I've been trying to set it to cool down to 72 overnight, then turn it to 80 during the day when I'm not there. If I don't do that it will just run all day. My A/C has a hard time keeping it to 75 if it's set to 75. My place has a North and a West wall, the WORST for cooling in the summer and heating in the winter. At least it helps with the humidity.

What heat? It's a nice and mild and around 20C (72F) out here. Only thing is that it's been raining on and off.

Yes i'm afraid so:D Actually in my mature recollection ( i.e in 46 years) i think the warmest weather we've ever had was about 32 max:(

We do however have lovely green grass all of the time:D

Ha! The only green grass I saw there in March was around Trinity College. Spent three weeks driving around the rest of Ireland and can't say I saw much green grass. :p But I do have to say that I loved the climate there. I was standing on beaches (in March) in shorts, sandals and t-shirt while back home they were digging out of yet another snow storm. I still keep Dublin as one of my weather check spots just to see how pleasant your weather is there. High of 66F for y'all tomorrow. I'll take it! (Actually, if it weren't for the horrible job situation there, I would have tried to stay. Amazing place you live in!)

you easterners cant take the heat. i live in phoenix and all this is normal.

Well feel free to jet over here to the midwest today. Today's high is only 106F but the heat index will be 115F. IF you've never dealt with heat and humidity, it's really hard to explain. It's worse than a steam room. Just for giggles though, I'll probably run about 5k a little later out in it. It really helps re-align perspectives.

That said, run AC at home. Run AC Max in the car on my way anywhere. I'm fortunate to work in a facility that stores art work and rare books so the temperature and humidity in there is dead level constant. We have the heat and AC on 24/7/365. During the summer, I come up out of the storage areas wearing a jacket. It freaks out all the people outside the facility. :D

The heat yesterday was around 110. They say we may break our all time high today. The all time high is 114. Also, my AC has practically died at this point. If it was a horse, I'd take it out back and put a bullet in it.

ive been hiking and fishing when i leave work, usually followed by some swimming to cool off. people keep acting like i'm crazy for hiking in this heat, but it's usually about 10-20 degrees cooler in the woods

My AC died last month, went with a 3ton 16 seer with all new ductwork etc.. up from a 20 year old 2.5ton. $7,000 later, I am COOL on this 110 degree day.

Three stories of refrigerated coolness and splendor, not including the attic and finished basement. All wonderful and delightful, and a tad costly. I get into a cool car, drive down the road in refrigerated comfort to the refrigerated office or shopping mall. From the agents and lawyers offices, to the gentelmen's club... refrigerated all the way.

I'll say this however, I had to walk outside to fetch the mail yesterday and the fifty foot walk just about killed me. Thank goodness I gots me some beer and great food delivery.

I'm looking at a 2 ton 13 SEER unit. I can't make the math work to justify the 16 SEER every time I crunch the numbers it comes up as 10-15 years to break even. I'm too much of a cheapskate to spend the $4k.

I've lived in New Orleans all my life, i'm used to 100* temps and 100% humidity.

Not to mention I work offshore so it's even more brutal out in the gulf, so I just deal with it.
