Root How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Stock Rom

Everyone is always hating on stock rom. But I realized after trying every rom for dx, including rubix, liberty, tranquility, apex, darkslide, etc, I've come to a conclusion.

Stock gives the best battery life.

Im currently overclocked to 1.2ghz and am easily getting two days of battery life (on extended)

I selectively delete which apps I want removed via root explorer.
Dx settings section remains intact.I just put gingerbread theme on it.

I fixed it This may be the case for some but I did not get good battery life on stock. And believe me when I say I did all the mods to get it better. I just always found there were too many processes running, stuff that I didn't want to use. ApeX is the best for me so far. Thats about the life I'm experiencing with ApeX now. its nice

I'm in the same position. I've tried rubix and Apex and both were awful on battery life for me. On the stock rom OC'ed to 1.2Ghz, I can go about 2 days if I wanted to as well.

Oh I hear you on theming stock. I guess my point is that his phone is not totally stock if its themed.

Stock runs fine if you leave it as is. The only thing you would need is launcherpro on your stock phone and its smoooooth

Also, all droidx are relatively the same. I had the opprtunity to go through 3 replacement phones, and the only difference I can see with each are the overclock thresholds.

I think I will make quick guide to keep batt life longest on stock in a bit.

Fine is definitely a very subjective opinion(which everyone is entitled to). It is extremely choppy compared to any of the good roms when switching screens or scrolling up and down the app drawer. Getting rid of that choppiness is probably one of the biggest reasons people use other roms.

I think that stock ROM used to have enough issues to justify using a custom ROM before they sent the 2.3 Droid X firmware update... I still like not having the bloatware, and it does seem faster to me, but I can see why people would want to keep stock. It really isn't that drastic of a difference, I think custom ROM's are great for people who like to tweak and be controll freaks

...or those who are not content to wait for the scraps that Motorola and Verizon feel like throwing our way. Why wait, when (if you're rooted) you can get the best of the upcoming releases EARLY, through the developers; who I trust a whole helluva lot more than I do Motorola, to not screw-up my phone.

for your phone and what you do with it, stock for you works and gives the best battery life. For other people and the things they do, Liberty, Apex, GummyJar or maybe even the ancient FlyX might give them the best battery life. There are many factors to consider, including battery charge cycles, processes running, applications that are used more often then others, sync, gps and all the other things that people can do.

Personally, Liberty with the Battery tweak rocks the hell outta stock. Apex also beats most other things with battery. A simple line like "stock gives the best battery life" doesn't apply to everyone. I'm not trying to shoot you down but more trying to get a point across. People's opinions will differ based on what they do with their phone. My friend is running stocked rooted with Liberty theme and I removed all the bloatware from it and he says he couldn't get 24 hours out of it if he tried. Myself can pretty much a whole day out of Liberty 1.5 w/ tweak.

Also, another huge reason people hate on stock is cause it really doesn't offer anything. Look at the other roms and what they give. Toolboxes have really brought roms to a new level. You can theme, remove/add apps, overclock, and do loads of other stuff by simply running a command or clicking a button.

and just like Ultra Droid said, most of us don't wanna wait on the scraps that vzw and @$$-arola give us. (I mean really, WHY would they satisfy their customers when they can sell mediocre upgraded phones)

If I'm reading the screen shot correctly, you got a bit over 2 days with the screen not used much, minimal wifi, and the phone mostly idle whilst using an extended battery. If that's your typical usage pattern, that's great.

I'm doing my benchmarking using my typical pattern of a couple hours interactive use and 20-30 minutes of phone usage per day. For any of these comparisons to be meaningful, much less drawing any conclusions, there needs to be a common baseline.

Since going to Apex 1.4, I'm seeing markedly improved battery life. But I'm also doing optimizations (CPU governor, underclocking when screen is off, reduced voltages on higher clock speeds), etc. that would probably yield similar gains on a stock ROM -- at which point, it's not a stock configuration.

minimal wifi would actually increase battery life. i had 3g on most of the day(s), with gps enabled. 3g radio uses up a good deal of battery life.

yes, the phone was mostly idle, as i had about 40 minute in telephone conversation for the 2 days.

additionally i played about 1 hour of Pandora (on 3G) during commuting.

also, i have used droid overclock, both on stock and custom ROMs. i found battery life to be best on stock rom with all its blur.

Liberty 1.5 w/battery patch, not known as a rom great for battery life, also extended battery, overclocked to 1.25 and not having the benefit of wi-fi (which helps battery life):

I'm just trying to figure out what we're looking at with the screen shot. If the screen is using not much more or less battery than standby, I just guessed it wasn't used much... but I am asking to confirm. The duration you're getting is impressive, but it's these sort of details that determine how relevant your usage and config is to mine. Just want to be clear.

Yes, just confirming that you weren't using WiFi during this period.

I'm running Apex "blurry" myself. Idle usage with 3G on is impressively flat (at night) after overclocking, but I still see my screen utilization taking the vast majority of battery, due to my usage (lots of peeking at news and email).
