Help How is everyone Tethering now that we have root?

I found it !

I got flawless wifi tether running with TrevE's modded wifitether.

Can be found in his original post:

I used the WifiTether-TrevE_Mod_11_22_2012_driverReload2
My settings:
Device Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Setup Method: Netd-NDC (master)
Send Netd Max Client Cmd - Checked
Wifi-driver reload 2 - Checked
Routing fix - Checked

Been running for 25 minutes no problems on LTE.

I can confirm this works with those settings. Thanks!

Why go through all that? I have root and use foxFi designed for phones without root. It works fine on my note 2 as well as others. Just install the app.
Any benefit to using TrevE mod?

So foxFi will work on GN2 without a root? Can you or anybody else confirm pls?

Waiting for my GN2 to arrive in a few days! Will need tethering whenever we are out and wife wants to connect her Nexus7.

Confirmed. Works on my Note 2 on Verizon, WITHOUT root.

Anyone having any luck with NON-rooted Sprint GN2? Since Sprint has blocked the app from the Play store, I downloaded it from Amazon but it's version 1.91...they don't have 1.95 yet.

I heard foxfi now charges something like $20 for their full version? still well worth it if its just a one-time fee but can anyone confirm that the free foxfi-lite version shuts off after a few minutes so you need to reset the app?

Free foxfire is hit or miss now and upgrade version is $6.95 but does not work as good as the free version used to.

Ive been running free foxfire all day...

1. It works great until you reach the limit and then it turns off
2. restarting is not too much of a hassle although it went from over a half hour of use down to about 10 minutes now before it restarts, starting to get annoying.
3. I wouldn't mind paying 7 bucks for the full version at all, but if the full version doesn't work as well as the free version I don't want it...
4. I am getting about 10mbps download speed on a consistent connection and I live in the boonies

Apparently Portable Wifi Hotspot is the "new" Foxfi....unless you're with Sprint. http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-note-2/672293-foxfi.html

Thanks! Your posiive this doesn't show up on verizon's side? Has anybody been charged for tethering it seems to just work through the device's hotspot?

I've never heard of anyone having problems with Verizon. A friend of mine is on Verizon unlimited plan & uses the paid version of FoxFi all the time. But as with anything you do outside of their boxes you're taking a chance. I've heard AT&T catches their customers & switches them to a different plan. Sprint just keeps you from using it in the first place & I'm not sure how T Mobile customers do.

welp my experiment with Portable Wifi Hotspot is over. I can confirm that Foxfi works MUCH better. I can't prove it but I think Verizon may have plugged some hole to handicap portable wifi hotspot because I was using it for a few days and it was working fine until I got a verizon carrier update a few days ago and portable wifi hotspot started working like crap. Foxfi is still working great though so I'm going to bite the bullet and just purchase the full version

I just have to laugh that this thread is still active. What does root have to do with tether. It's default functionality. Silly Americans. Mwahaha
