how is its performance

I would like to know how good is its performance, considering its below par processor running ICS. on a scale of 10 where would you rate it?

It does feel a little sluggish when changing screens or opening notifications and it lags a little at times. Right now I'd give it 7/10. It feels great in the hand and the screen looks bright and clear but once you start touching and using it you do feel a little let down by it.

I was wondering the same. My wifes wants her first smartphone, but wants a budget phone and this is one we are looking at. Although the reviews seem a little bad that I have read.

Does this feel laggy when just using the browser? I know they have cut it right down to handle ICS.

Its either this one or the LG Optimus L3 that seems a lot more powerful for the money. Although only 2.3, on paper it should be much better than the Desire. We are off to have a play in the shops next week and will report back if anyones interested?

OK I got this phone, and I'm very fussy and critical of everything I own. However I have found it to be excellent.

I'd be lying if I said it never lagged. But for me, it's more than reasonable 99% of the time. It'll probably seem worse if you've owned a much more powerful phone, but if you don't know any different (like me) I'd say it is fine.

I use Opera Mobile web browser which is very slick. I've found the keyboard lags in portrait mode in Opera which is annoying. However the keyboard is fine in the stock browser, Dolphin browser and any other app I've tried.

We went with this phone eventually. The phone itself is pretty nice and has most of the features of other HTC's and the performance so far has not caused any issues. You can feel that it has a cut down HTC sense such as no Live Wallpaper support, but generally it looks and feels nice. Least for my wife. :)

The only bug bear is that there is no Sound Control Widget which is present on most other phones, even her old Pixon has one. So you have to place a shortcut on the homepage which then takes you to your settings page, then onto sound profiles, then selection. Shame really as this is a function that is used a great deal, I know you can get some apps from the Play Store but they are all intrusive, ie needing internet access.

So overall it is a worthy budget smart phone, especially for just

Looks interesting Carrot. I shall take a look, but firstly does using them significantly effect the performance of the phone? i.e. scrolling around the screens get laggy etc? HTC must have turned them off for a reason and I guess its a performance issue.

This was both my initial thought and my concern. It was another thing that irked me since it was yet another thing they had on the Wildfire S and left off the Desire C.

However I can happily say I haven't noticed a performance drop when using Live Wallpapers. I currently have a demon with flames licking up the screen and it's running fine.

Nice one, sounds great. Now all I need to find is a widget for the sound profiles that works on the Desire C and i'm sorted. :)

Nice job Carrot, your app works great. Also found the profile app I was looking for, just had to sign-in to the HTC Store and grab the widget.

Next up will be a good old rooting. ;)

Thanks Jay, nice to know. I may see if an admin will make it a sticky since I bet as more and more people get the phone, more and more people will notice the Live Wallpapers option is missing :)

Out of interest what profile app did you get, as I also want to get hold of one.

Thanks,

No probs Carrot, got the Galaxy 3 Live wallpaper on her phone - looks and runs beautifully.

To get the widget - Sign-in to the HTC Hub app then goto: Applications, A-Z, HTC Essentials and you will find 'Profile Widget' hidden in there. Bloody pain in the butt there is no search feature in the app!! lol

Thanks - I downloaded Quick Profiles in the end which allows me to create different profiles such as work, home, outdoor, driving, etc (increase and decrease things like ringtone, vibration, brightness, ring type, etc).

Should be a stock app really!
