Help How is the battery?

About a year ago, I wanted to get an android, so I purchased the HTC Inspire. I loved it, but the battery life was HORRID. Honestly within an hour and a half I'd lose 15% without even using it. So, I returned it for an iPhone 4. The iPhone is great, (I've had apple products my whole life 'cause my mom works at apple) but I want to give Android another chance. My mom has her contract expired, so the plan was to give her the iPhone 4 and I would get the 4s. But I really like the style of the gs2. So, how is the battery as well as the rest of the phone? Is it worth getting instead of a 4s?

Awesome for a smart phone. I could probably get close to 2 days out of it based on today's stats, but I consider anything that will take me comfortably through the day sufficient.

exactly, as long as I could get through the day I'm good. The HTC inspire was HORRIBLE though, really put me off to android devices

Well i just came fRom the ip4 and with similar usage my sii is dead by 5 starting the day
At 7. Ip4 would still be at 40% and have at least 4-5 more hours .
Today i readjusted my settings and well see how tomorrow goes but so far not too good

that's what I'm afraid of, I don't want to have to be careful about using my phone for extended periods of time. Hopefully you get better results tomorrow. Please let me know how it is.

I'm actually very impressed with the battery life with my GSII. I'm going on 1 day and 14 hours of moderate use and I'm still at 37%.

Well the good news is that since it's NOT an iphone, you can actually carry a spare battery and be up and running w/ 100% batt life in the time it takes to re-boot.

Today was my first full day with the GSII, Im coming from a Captivate so my battery expectations were low. I unplugged the phone at 730 this morning, and it's now 445pm. I listened to 5 hours of podcasts, 2 entire albums of music, texted a few times, played about 15 mins of cut the rope, and messed around with a few other things that had the phone up for awhile as well. Right now I am at 48%, which in my opinion is amazing. With this type of usage my Cappy would have easily been dead by 3pm.

first day w/ the GS2, and it made it 12.5 hours before it hit 30%. I was fiddling w/ it all day setting up all my accounts and apps, so this was not "normal" usage day for me though.

I can say that I manage a day's use out of it, as in I leave for school at 9am, and when I get back at 8pm my phone is around 20%. However, I often use my phone for web browsing, especially in direct sunlight while waiting for the bus on campus (Average 30-40 minutes per day of browsing at max brightness), play games if I get bored (30 mins or so), check random facts and formulas as needed (10 mins or so), and use my phone to make about 2-3 quick calls a day. It really depends on how often you utilize the screen and at what brightness setting. If I turn the brightness down I could get almost 7 hours of constant use out of it instead of 10 hours at moderate use (Battery Use stats say I had the phone display on for 2.5 hours and was responsible for almost half the battery drain!). It all depends on how you plan to use the phone. An iPhone 4S will have a smaller screen and better battery life as a result, so if you use it a lot then you will definitely notice a difference.

For example, today:

10 hours 20 minutes on battery
40% display (2hr 35m)
36% Android OS
6% Voice Calls (16m)
6% Android System
4% Dolphin Browser HD
4% Cell Standby [Time without signal 26%(while I was at work most likely)]
2% Phone Idle
2% Robo Defense

As you can see, the display eats up the most battery, with the OS CPU needs nipping at it's heels. The CPU drain is to be expected as it is a dual core phone, but the battery life is still better than my captivate.

I came from the iphone4 and the battery life is about the same. i can use it all day at work and still have 40% by the end of the day. I will say though that it takes a lot longer to charge. from 11% to 100 it took just about 4 hours to charge with the included wall charger. The iphone charges in half that time.

Battery life is excellent. The best I've experienced on any smartphone. It'll last all day with heavy usage.

You mentioned not using phone for 1.5 hours unplugged. I woke up at 6 something this morning and unplugged my phone and went back to sleep. I did this just to see how much battery it would lose.

When I got up at 8:30 (2 - 2.5 hours later), it still had 99% battery.

I use Juice Defender, which really helps with phone idle time.

Those of you who are posting percentages, are you able to find this on a stock SGS2 or did you guys download an app? I'm just making sure I'm not missing something and don't need this Battery Status Pro.

I was only getting about 8-10 hours of battery life on my SG2. I then installed Ultimate Juice and also turned of automatic syncing. With just those 2 changes, I picked up at least another 4-6 hours of life. This is all with mid level use throughout the day.

I feel like there has to be some way to access this through android natively, but I can't find it. I use the Battery Left widget, free in the market and pretty darn accurate (gives its estimate on the widget then the native bat stats when you tap on the widget).

in settings- about phone-status- battery level gives your the percentages of battery back.

I just game from the iphone 4 as well. i would say the sg2 is on par with the iphone.

Huh? Battery Status in Settings just shows a breakdown of what is using your battery life.

Agreed. I've looked around this screen as well. Maybe we're both just missing it, and if so I'd love the hear more from Chambers if they're finding the info we wanted through the settings.

I saw that by accident yesterday. It is NOT in the Battery section at all. It's in the menu right above it. Go figure!

I'll preface by saying I use Juice Defender, so when my screen is off, so is my data connection..

Last night, I went to bed with 65% battery left. I did not charge it just to see how much it would drain overnight. From 1am to 7am, it dropped only to 62%.

Sounds like most people are having good experiences with the battery. Has anyone used an Atrix? I love the phone but for such a big battery it's pretty poor. Overall how good is the phone? Because if the phone is great and the battery is much better then I would make the switch.
