how is the keyboard ?

ive been plagued with the epics keyboard issue on all of the epics I've owned. how is the one on the shift ? .. what's the big button do ?

The buttons have a satin like feel. There is good spacing and the keys are raised just enough. I like it and I am not much of a fan of horizontal keyboards. I've always had the vertical qwerty keyboards.

The big button is the D-pad.

I like it a lot and I've been using swype exclusively for a long time...don't take me long to relearn it.

My only complaint really is the HTC shell I put it in interferes with the top row just a bit.

I am enjoying the keyboard, after coming from a TP2 having to readjust to a 4 row instead of 5 row keyboard, but i love the design and the d-pad is helpful for moving around. NO complaints from me and the fact that the phone isn't bulky with a keyboard is a plus.

Love it man, I can bang out words very fast. It feels very good and the d-pad is great for gaming.

its waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the epic kb IMO. the epics keys are too close together and with very little "feel". almost as if its a flat slick piece of plastic. whereas the shifts keys are spaced well and have a nice surface that is easy for the fingers to work with.

price without upgrade is 549.99, i have had it for 2 days got it on the early sale from best buy key spacing on the keyboard is really good and I've never used a d-pad before this but it is extremely functional.

hmm. im gonna checkem out tomorrow sprint said they would hold one for me. i read the are more of entry level device though. compared to an epic of evo. is this true? please post any issues you find for me

Way definitely not an entry level device, with stock Froyo.

The overall processor scores compare to the iP4, and one early benchmark - stock, not a controlled test - put it a little above the Evo.

Disappointing that part of the entry fee includes a 2GB SD card, so adding up more capacity does eat into its price.

It's rated below the Evo and Epic by many early users/lookers/pundits - but it's one of Sprint's top 3, and on par with the MyTouch 3G.

Definitely not entry level.

right on brother. thx for the info. i have a new evo sealed in the box if you'd be interested in trading.

Thanks, got one (Evo) charging next to this laptop and WifelyMon wanted the Shift because of a better fit in form factor (hand size).

Seems you could eBay the larger, buy this, and have cash to spare, tho.

ya its on ebay right now, i thought maybe i could save some steps and trade straight up lol keep us posted on your thoughts of the swift and any bugs....

I played with the keyboard today at sprint, and has a great feel to it, very easy to type, one of the best keyboards I have used, very spacious

That refers to the ability to hold the shift key while typing for example, faster than the mini-shift-lock the HTCs are known for - I believe.

There are copies of the Droid X keyboard floating around root sections of XDA. We don't link to non-standard keyboards here for copyright concern reasons.

Might even google for that with Evo in the search string, I'm just saying.

Can't recall if those float around separately or as part of replacement roms - separately, I think.

Funny thing is - I often see in the Droid X forums that they want our keyboard to the same degree that we want theirs.

Gotta love Android - choice is good. ;)

I presume that the Shift has a multi-touch screen. Anybuddy wanting to confirm can try something like -

There are other apps like that, that's the first one offhand.

Well i downloaded it and tried it seems we can do 4 multi-touch at one time.

Wow, excellent. The early Evos were 5, then later 3, and after that I didn't keep up.

Thanks for checking!

Still can't get over how thick it is NOT, after our pre-release speculations.
