Root How Long Does a NAND Restore Ususually Take?

Brian Rubin

Android Enthusiast
Hey y'all, question? I was running Cyanogen, and backed up my ROM using Amon RA. Then, with Amon RA, tried to flash another ROM, which failed. I'm now restoring the backup, but it's been going for over an hour. Does a restore usually take this long? Thanks!

No it usually only takes 5 minutes or so. Pull the battery or press the power and volume buttons to reset the phone and try again. Or try a different nand backup. That happened to me once before.

K, I only have one backup through AMON Ra. I do have another backup in ClockwordMod though. How could I flash ClockworkMod if I had to?

Sigh, okay, I restored the NAND backup successfully, but it's been on the white screen for ages now. I have another backup, but in ClockworkMod. How can I flash ClockworkMod so I can use that instead of Amon RA?

You can access the sd card from your pc while in recovery. Put another rom on your sd card, wipe flash and reboot. Then load rom manager and flash clockwork back.

I can't flash it because I keep getting this error:

assert failed: write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img","boot")

I'm getting really scared. Please help.

Do you have hboot 2.02? I hear amon doesn't play nice with it so that might be your problem. I have search high and low and can not find the clockwork thread over on xda!

K, NM, I tried to reflash Cyanogen after running that update, and it completed successfully! Now I wait while the white screen is on, but I know booting takes longer after a wipe of the caches.

OMG OMG IT'S BACK. THE CYANOGEN BOOTSCREEN IS ON! YAY! YAY! THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Your making progress! Did you wipe everything prior to flashing? Also are you on clockwork now? If so try and restore a nand.

I know I'm late to the party here, but I thought I'd ask - where did you get RA recovery from? ROM manager? RA has the same issues that Clockwork did up until the very recent update. The RA recovery available from that post wrap linked to is basically a fixed version for newer phones. If you flashed the normal RA recovery, that explains why it didn't work.

Right now, it sounds like you're just in a boot loop. Take wraps advice, and make sure you've wiped everything. Once you get everything back up, you should make sure you haven't wiped out your wimax keys.

Whew. I actually flashed the PC36IMG.zip file from here in the HBOOT screen and finally was able to boot to a stable ROM, load ROM Manager, flash ClockworkMod, and do another backup. I've since reinstalled Cyanogen, and everything is working as it should. Thank you sooo much, everyone, for your help today.
