How Long to Initially Charge Battery???

I just upgraded to the Incredible 2 and it should be here by tomorrow. I was just wondering if I should just let it charge for the entire day without turning it on or turn it on right away after plugging it in...what did you do when you first received your new phone? I want to make all of the right choices with this battery :)

I usually leave it off and charge it till it's full. Then use as normal.

Li-Ion batteries don't have memory so there's no reason to drain completely before charging again. Maybe once a month drain it fully and charge again so the phone more accurately reads a remaining time. I've also read that shorter time between charges is preferable, but I usually only charge overnight or when needed (like on a long trip while running Pandora or Nav.)
 
When I got mine, I charged it a little bit on the car charger (was about half full), used it off and on, then ended up fully charging it at night when I went to bed.
 
Since I had my Eris still in functional condition, I set mine on the charger for a full day before powering it up. Then after powering it up I didn't plug it in again until it died on it's own. Then let it charge (off) until the green light was on again. This was to allow the phones battery monitoring software to allign with the battery votage giving me an accurate reading from now on of the percent remaining.

"Your phone ships with a partially charged battery so it’s suggested you charge your battery fully before first use. The battery is fully charged when the notification LED turns green. It is recommended to charge the battery for 8 hours the first time to ensure that the battery has had time to recharge. "
 
The green light just came on for mine, and I've had it charging (brand new, out of the box) for the past two hours.

So would the recommendation be to leave it charging for another two before activating?
 
shoot, im doin it wrong. i usually take it out and drain whatever is in there fully, full charge (never overnight) then full drain again. after that i charge when i can

Doesn't really matter what you do with the battery first, as stated above li-on batteries do not have a memory like the old ni-cad batteries did. (that's where those instructions to fully charge before using come from).

However, it is good to let the phone fully discharge every now and then just so the phone software stays calibrated with the battery life.
 
I am getting my Incredible 2 today and wasn't sure about charging the battery. I am getting it around noon and figured I would need to charge before days end. I will wind up charging it overnight despite how much battery is used. I don't want it dying tomorrow morning or early afternoon. I kinda wanna gauge what I normal day will be like.
 
So, my new DInc2 has been on it's maiden charge-up for about 5.5 hours now. The light went from amber to green a little after 2.5/3 hours. I unplugged the charger then replugged. Amber light. Charging continued for maybe another hour until the light went green. Unplugged & re-plugged. Amber light. Charging continued.

This whole process has repeated itself like 4 times already. Just weird.

I'm still gonna wait the full 8 hours before booting up for the first time. Probably won't make any difference at all... but I'm a stickler for details when it comes to new tech toys.
