Or even further further and get a light rom, cut it down further and go mental with a custom MTD layout and a "bind mount /data/local/download to /cache/download if cache partition is too small" script.

I'm not sure how anyone is running very many on the Desire's limited memory. I've encountered only a handful that will use the SD card (now that 2.2 has been pushed onto the phone & "stabilized"). In fact, I had to delete several apps to make room for the 2.2 upgrade. Now, if I could find an app that would (a) make the screen visible in daylight and (b) allow me to locate & dial a number in less than two minutes, I'd be pretty tickled. (And yes, I've tried those so-called "dialers," but basically the Android's excuse for an address book leaves a lot to be "desired" in my opinion...)

There aren't any reasonable memory limits with a2sd+ and a custom ROM.
I have 75 user apps according to Titanium backup (with another 8 apps backed up but not installed)
I still have 100MB free for more apps.
Should be good for another 75 apps or so I reckon (not that I can find another 75 apps I want to install!)

Like SU said, it's possible to get even more space for apps with custom partitions.

The people who are counting from their app drawer are. Those using titanium are not

and those of us who then used titanium to count, then went to press other options and just radomly press things to see IF they were explained to only find out they do things with no explantion and then find out it ****s their market up.....whoopsie...

*looks ashamed*

I've got several Android devices, so my children can play on them too. The 2 year old has just worked out how to install apps, so I have quite a few 2-year old games now.

Bloody hell, you're brave.

I let my six-year old play games (Cordy is the current fave) but the 2yo won't be getting his hands on it (with permission, at least) any time soon...

My 6 year old would scratch the screen. Then again, he is a cat.

I'd like to see him try. Bloody good, the glass on these phones.
If he pee'd on it though, that's a different matter. Cat wee is extremely corrosive stuff.

And smelly.

My screen is scratched. Honestly no idea how. It has a couple of drops. The casing is pretty battered up too. Its all cosemtic though. Everything works fine.

Gosh. Very short "sentences"

Ha ha. I'll take that route if I feel that I need more space. ;)

You are limited to the predefined space and Froyo limited ability to move the apps to SD card.
What we have suggested (for rooted phones) is to use a2sd+ (which can move all the apps to SD card leaving just small data elements on internal memory) in combination with claiming more space from the internal memory chip.

Something tells me they are counting the factory "apps" that come with the OS.
I have deleted some apps from my phone recently, but still if I look at Titanium Backup, I see this:
113 are user apps
82 system apps
195 total apps.

Oh, and I have 96MB free space after installing some very large apps like Opera Mobile, Adobe Air, Talking Tom, Copilot Live, Aldiko, Angry Birds, Vital Player, etc...

According to Quicksystem I have 145 system apps and 136 user apps. Where does Titanium show this information?

In the batch screen, look at backup user apps or move user apps and it gives a number.

System apps are irrelevant

So now I have a nice selection of devices (for testing purposes, you understand!), I can discourage my children from using my newest ones by only putting sensible software on like Thinking Space, CatLog and Android System Info.

My Nexus S has 109, my Galaxy Tab has 91, my Xoom has 64, and my Samsung Galaxy S2 has 29 (but then I only got that yesterday!).

The Sony Ericsson and Advent Vega (rooted) are in the hands of R&D at the moment, so who knows there.

The Galaxy Tab has a duff battery now, with only a short battery life, so it needs to run off the mains (good for bedtime child use though!). It will be replaced by a HTC Flyer next week (We have plenty more in R&D as they were the first tablets to work with).

PS The 2 year old will get the Galaxy Tab as it is less fiddly. The 5 year old will get the Nexus S, as she likes the styling. I'll keep the Galaxy S2, the HTC Flyer (small enough to fit in my pockets) and the Xoom (for indoor use mostly).

I have like 20 market apps installed on my desire. But i only have 50mb left on the internal memory. Ive installed some of the apps at the sd-card, but how do you guys have such a lot of apps on your phones? :P

Three words my friend.. We all rooted!

67 user apps according to Titanium. 89 Mb free. Gotta love the flexibility gained by rooting!!!
