How many returns/cancellations does Verizon allow?

I tried a 4G modem a couple of months ago and it worked pretty well but I realized that I needed a hotspot that could make calls so I returned it and canceled my account and waited for a capable device.

I bought the Rezound a couple of weeks ago and while I love the phone the constant data drops and hotspot disconnects make it a very unreliable device for work purposes so I am considering retuning it and canceling my contract.

Does anyone know if I can try a third device later or will they brand be as lame customer and not allow me to try/buy another phone?

How many "try it before you buy it" phones does one get?

That is an interesting question and there may not be a set number of returns so to speak.

Friday evening I had this very conversation with our local Verizon sales manager. He said that they will allow multiple returns as long as they adhere to the official return window policy. He also indicated that if you have been a loyal long time customer that even those rules are bent as long as you don't over due it so as to keep long time customers happy. He also said that an individual store rep or manager may try to limit returns based upon his/her priorities. His take was to be as forceful as necessary and if you get serious resistance just ask him/her for their employee ID so you can email corporate. That should get you all the service you want.

So FWIW.

Official policy on returns (according to multiple Verizon CSRs) is you get one device, and have 14 days to return it. When you go to the next device that's supposed to be your last shot. Granted, sometimes they will bend the rules but usually if you have one mulligan and then that's it. Where the OP's situation may be different is that he has two different kinds of devices. A 4G modem or hotspot are usually different from a phone and normally require a separate plan, same as a tablet or netbook require a separate plan.

From what I understand he should be able to switch phones once more as long as he returns the Rezound during the 14 day trial, and his bill is up to date. After that, if he's not satisfied with his next phone, he'll either be stuck or have to find an understanding CSR or supervisor who may be willing to bend the rules for him.
