Root How many ways can i fail toor root?

Hello all...

I have a mytouch 3g 1.2? (without the head phone jack) and i have tried and tried to root this thing... I know i have to downgrade my phone first from 1.6 cool got that... So i have read and followed these two different ways of rooting the device...

the gold card method failed me once i am trying it with a different card... it said something like device ID wrong...

Any ideas?

if you do not have the 3.5 jack on the phone you do not have 1.2

If you need a cord to listen to your headphones v1.0
NO cord needed v1.2
