how much data do you use?

And her potential sexting to overall texting ratio is pretty low. :p

hahahaha

this is true.
That is A LOT of text messaging. She is probably doing that during the school year too.
Last month I only sent about 4000 messages and I was embarassed.

How do you know?

Is there a way to tell, on the phone (2.1/Eclair)? Or do you have to log in at your wireless carrier?

Do I understand this right, that if I am on Wi-Fi, any data usage is NOT counted against my data cap?

I'm capped at 5GB and I avoid YouTube and things involving streaming for this reason... but if I set my Wi-Fi network up at home (currently, it's strictly wired) it would be nice to do those things if it bypassed my 5GB cap. And I don't mind the cap, or at least I won't if my regular Facebook usage and trying out new apps on Market, and the random Opera Mini browsing doesn't add up to 5GB. If it does... well, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Out of curiosity... what would compel someone to d/l so much stuff (like movies) over 3G as opposed to a land connection? You realize the latter is much, much faster, right?

Maybe I'm just spoiled because I have 50 mbps FIOS at home and ~300 mbps at work. :p

it's not a hard cap - it's unlimited internet. if you consistently go way over 5gb (which you probably won't - even with pandora streaming daily and quite a bit of web surfing and stuff daily, i usually barely cross 2gb), they'll flag your account and maybe do something - you'll likely be fine.

Don't let fear of this "cap" interfere with your use of your phone. You really don't have anything to worry about, especially if you're not even tethering.

Edit: if you want to see how much data you have used, go to the market and open the Verizon tab on the top. Get My Verizon - it'll show you your usage for data, texts, and minutes, as well as your bill at that moment.

Is there a good app to monitor what exactly is using your data? I can look on VZW homepage and it shows I have used 1gb, but what is using that 1gb is what I want to know.

thanks!

3G Watchdog gives a better breakdown of the usage (by day, week, etc.) but I don't think it will tell you what exactly is using the data. I'm sure it could help you get a better idea though

First day with downloads and streaming some radio, 160 MB... Yikes!!! Can't WiFi at work nor can I listen to streaming radio on my computer... WiFi at home.

Last time I checked.. it IS an unlimited data plan. The definition of unlimited is no limit. Of course I don't mean rack up huge data amounts via tethering or anything like that..but 2GB in the last 8 days is fine. However if your using up 30-40GB a month.. then you might want to rethink how much data your using. Point is.. don't worry so much about your data usage, assuming it's within reason. We pay the extra $30 for this data plan.. I intend to use it.

Usually use about 2-3 GB per month and on wifi all the time.

first post!

Most of us with Verizon have unlimited data anyway. I for one, use the bloody hell out of it every chance I get. With as much as we pay for "unlimited" data, if you think about it most of us only use a few GB's a month; it breaks down to a VERY high price per MB compared to our regular internet. So to leverage that I try to use as much data as possible. Wifi may be faster, but I almost exclusively use the 3G, as it makes the price seem more justifiable haha. Because of this I always use several GB's a month.....the more the merrier.
