You will probably be seeing a lot of me here now because of my wife's recent acquisition. I also just upgraded to a Sprint HTC EVO 3D, so I am on that subforum as well. ;)

I could never abandon my original Android device, so I am on the Sprint HTC Hero subforum too. Finally, my B&N Nook Color leads me to that subforum. :D

Can't completely abandon the evo 4g sub forum. Never forget your first...lol

I really, really, really wanted to LOVE the Evo 3D. After playing with it, though, the 3D is, IMO, "meh". There are a slew of 2.1/3.0 sense ROMs out there now for the Evo 4g and I've tried most of them.

I just can't see a phone on the near-term horizon that makes me think "gee, I wish I could start a new 2-year gig". I have an upgrade in my pocket just burning a hole, but nothing ropes me in.

Until the themes, mods, roms, tweaks, utilities, etc., are rock-solid on the 3D, I'm firmly settled on my Evo 4G. Perhaps something new will come along, but I really don't want the 3D features. I'd prefer a stellar display, 1080p recording, and an 8mp camera coupled with a dual core processor.

Right now, I have mikg 2.41 along with v6 supercharger on it and it runs very, very quickly. I'm very happy with how well it works...

I recently became a sprint costumer and instead of getting the new EVO 3d I decided to get the EVO 4g. As of right now I really enjoy the Evo 4g, its smooth and vibrant but I have 30 days to return or exhange the phone if i'm not fully satisfied with the Evo 4g, I'm hoping that the Galaxy S2 will be on sprint before my 30 days.

One thing that really bugs me is that the EVO 4g cant be rooted if your on gingerbread....

I wouldn't bet on the SGS2 being available within your 30 days. The Photon 4G gets released this coming Sunday (28th online through Spring for Premier customers eligibile for upgrade).

I'd imagine there'll be at least a 30 day gap between the Photon 4G release and the SGS 2 release, so my projection would be 8/31 or later for the SGS 2 release.

Man I so hope your wrong but if it comes down to it i'll probably still buy the galaxy. Dam I'll keep my fingers crossed

Quite honestly, I hope I am too because then I'd be able to go into the store to check out the phone and see if it lives up to the hype.

Thing is, based on past history on Sprint's top phone releases, I'd be shocked if it was anytime sooner. All of the most recently released phones that are considered the "top" phones have been released past 30 days form one another:

Nexus S>EVO 3D>Photon 4G

There are some EVO 3D owners that had to call in because they want to switch to the Photon, but the Photon is getting released a few days to a week after from when their 30 days expires.

lol would this be possible...

Evo 4g (thirty days)> Evo 3d (thirty days) > S2? can you do that?

I have always just waited on my upgrade until a phone I wanted came out, but... this might be an option, though a sneaky less ethical one.

Sprint only allows one (1) time 30 day exchange. I'm not sure how Best Buy runs their policy. To me, it's seemed like they're more leniant.

I'm keeping this until a version of android won't run on it, or more likely, until there's a version of android that won't run on it that is so much better than froyo/gingerbread that I think it's worth spending $200 on a phone.

This EVO is pretty much everything I wanted.

Oh, I wanted to mention, my Samsung Moment that I got on release day, and gave to a friend after getting my EVO, finally died last week. The charging port finally stopped working. Turns out, putting the charge port on the side of the phone is a stupid idea.

EVO 4G is going to be done as of October
Sprint Killing Off Several Android Devices in the Coming Months | Processor Benchmark

That's actually good news though. For those of you that weren't eligible for upgrade, if you end up having to get a replacement phone, you just might get a 3D or an opportunity to upgrade prior to your listed eligibility.

Granted, I don't support people breaking their phones on purpose to possibly get an upgrade, but I know there are people that were having issues with their EVO 4G since the Gingerbread updates, so just keep this in mind that once you get past October, you might be in a good position to get a different phone without having to use your upgrade.

As long as I get Free Wireless Tethering on my EVO, I am keeping it active. I have 10 year tenure and can upgrade every year, but unless I can get Free Wireless Tethering, I am NOT giving up this phone. Hopefully Hesse's big announment is WiMax2 with better penetration. Then will upgrade my phone, unless Sprint gets the SGS2. I use Tethering on my Xoom and 3DS Alot.

After dealing with Motorola 's BS with the Xoom, there is NO WAY I WOULD TOUCH A MOTO PHONE (Photon) , especially with Blur. MOTO is off my list for life.

You can get free wireless tethering on any phone you root, iirc.

for those that blindly jumped to the Photon - do you miss your EVO at all?

i've read lots of bitching about the Photon's window screen display.

Only one thing from the EVO 4G (turn off shutter sound capability). Other than that, I love the MoPho! For me, there are just so many noticable upgrades over the EVO4G that I can't really imagine going back to it.

Even the Motorola Photon specific accessories are better than HTC's renditions on the EVO 4G (e.g. car dock and HD dock).

I definitely understand the complaints about the MoPho's screen. The "screen door" affect is more apparent on visually bright colors, but it's by NO means a downgrade or deal breaker for me. The EVO 4G's screen might not have shown that, but it's still visually clear enough for my needs that it doesn't bother me at all and definitely doesn't bother me as much as the EVO 3D screen.

I looked at the Photon. After the Moment, I can't get another phone with the charger port on the side. If you use the phone while on the charger at all, you're going to put stress on that usb port, and it'll break sooner than it should. That's what killed my Moment.

port needs to be on bottom of the phone.

I was confused by what you were saying at first, but now I understand.

You mean, if you talk on the phone or use it to browse the internet and put physical stress on the phone, it'll damage the USB port.

But I'm not sure that theory is the only possible way the USB port can get damaged. If you look in the EVO 4g forums, there are a ton of reports where people had to get their USB port replaced and/or get their phone replaced because their usb port went bad. And that port is on the bottom of the phone.

i don't like this either but i think it's the future. i think manufacturers will put the port on the side so you can charge and view it sideways in a dock to watch movies and use it as a alarm clock etc. let's hope i'm wrong but HTC changed this from the EVO to the EVO 3D so that may be the direction they are going. i prefer the bottom port too. but who knows perhaps my opinion will change after usage. we tend to like what we know.

Soon as Sprint gets the iPhone 5...bye bye Evo 4g with the new update that I had to do a hard reboot and lose all my apps and now won;t log me into my companies email web site.

I heard something like that about sprint getting the iphone 5. If is true i will stay with sprint and get the iphone 5. i was goin to go with att and get it.

I'll keep my E4G until something seriously better comes along from HTC. I've had too many problems with Motorola and Samsung phones in the past, and the E3D isn't a big enough improvement to make me switch. For now, the E4G still handles whatever I throw at it!
