So are you saying you believe the cost before my $150 discount would likely be around $300? That sounds more likely than it being $50 to me but I can still embrace my wishfull thinking. ;-)

If your not due for an upgrade...... this is going to be a $650+ phone

no matter how you cut it... from sprint.. it will be $200 with a 2 yr contract.

best buy, radioshack, online stores,.. etc.. might give you incentives off the $200... to make it cheaper.. but be careful of the small print! they also add in an extra to the EFT if you cancel!

I confirmed with 2 different Sprint reps today that my cost after my $150 discount will be $199. Wierd thing is that another rep told me 4 weeks ago I had a $150 rebate coming avail to me at my 20 month mark but both reps today said they have no idea why I was told that because that's not the case. My cost on 7 May(17th month) is the same as my cost will be if I waited until the last month of my contract. That leaves little value to my waiting to get the LTEvo other than the bug issue.

Interesting... I don't know if they are misinformed or what, but theres no way this is going to be a $350 phone without any sort of contract. This is Sprints flagship device

Any highend smartphone out there is not retailing for that cheap.

The galazy nexus is going to be $550(preorder price, who knows what itll be once its actually out), the 16gb iPhone 4s is $650, the Galaxy SII is $500.

I believe thats what they told you, but I'll believe that price when I see it.

I've had mine since launch weekend, June 2010. Thinking of ditching Sprint though to grab the HTC One XL on AT&T when it comes out soon. I love my EVO but Sprint's 3G speeds are slow, I can't keep 4G on without killing the battery (I use tethering a lot for work), and I'm not about to buy the EVO LTE and wait for Sprint to build out its LTE network in my area. This article today didn't help:

3G and 4G Wireless Speed Showdown: Which Networks Are Fastest? | PCWorld

It's sad that AT&T's HSPA+ 3G network is almost as fast as Sprint's Wimax 4G. I'd be perfectly fine using AT&T's 3G for tethering for work, and it won't kill my battery like Wimax does right now.

I saw that article as well. Being a man of science, I have some issues with them doing a test like that. First off, they only used 1 type of cell phone for each carrier. Also, they were only in each city for a day or two. Additionally, they used averages of pings to both coasts to calculate speed. Finally, they were only in a few locations in each city. To sum it up... I'd hardly call it comprehensive. Whatever money they spent on project that would've been better spent on something else.

Is Sprints data network pretty bad? I'm sure it is. They're trying to juggle 2 totally different 4G networks and all current data networks are suffering because of it. Having to order all those iPhones didn't help it at all either. Its completely bogging down the network and Sprint is still taking a huge loss on it.

I'm on WIFI 90% of the time and don't care though. I'm not in a 4G area and won't be for the foreseeable future. I've been in one before and was less than impressed (I pulled a PCWorld there ;))

Plus, I'm sticking with unlimited data. Especially if your tethering 4G for work. Thats gonna cost you on any other network

This.

@rwalterk--

My friend is on AT&T and he is *always* going over his monthly data cap. One time it was like a week and a half into his time...

I would think that using tethering would a) eat a lot of your data and b) get AT&T pissed off and they might can your contract.

But I definitely get what you're saying. My data speeds can be impossibly slow. In fact, I spent over an hour trying to load a page today just pressing refresh whenever I saw it had timed out. I was watching TV, so it wasn't like I was really in *need* of the site, but still. I get where you're coming form.

I don't think I've ever gone over 3 GB. I visit a lot of clients and need to use it frequently but only for short amounts of time. And I do use Wi-Fi whenever possible.

Sorry if I wasn't clear but it will be with a new contract.

I agree that it's a little hard to believe that the phone will cost around $349 but I was asked for clarification 3-4 times when speaking to both Sprint reps and they kept insisting that my cost will be $199 after my $150 discount with a new 2 year contract. Time will tell if that ultimatly turns out to be the case. Guess I'll know in 19 days.

So I've decided to try rooting my Evo 4G. If that works and I get the results I'm hoping for then I'll be good for awhile and can wait until 5-6 months after the LTEvo's release as I would normally prefer to do.

Wish me luck. :)

This is going to be my sixth post in this thread. -_- :p
I really hope that this my last, as I currently have my eyes on the HTC Evo 4G LTE :)
I hope I don't hear news about a new, better phone before I get the LTEvo, as I'll most likely wait for that one to come out.

Rooting it is def the way to go!

If you get on the sprint website the phone is listed at $200 with a contract. They aren't giving you your discount

I have had my EVO for about a year now, and it has been good to me. Still stock, but I got an itch.
I will be getting the Sprint Galaxy Nexus this Sunday.
I got a $50 coupon from sprint in the mail for being a Platinum member and a free early upgrade. They have the Nexus for $199 on pre-sale, minus the $50, and they will give me $120 for the EVO. So, for $30 I think this is a good deal.
Anyone else jumping up to the Nexus???

No, I will be waiting for the HTC EVO 4g LTE. It shouldn't be too much longer until it is out and it is miles ahead of the Nexus.

:dito:

I'll probably have to wait a few months before its out, but I'll be on that 4G LTE as well

I will most likely wait a few weeks to a month just to see if any major issues show up. I also don't have an upgrade until next year so I will have to "borrow" one of the other lines upgrade.

I'll be in the middle of a move and won't get reimbursed for all of those expenses till September, so money is going to be tight(i'm a full time student) and its looking like I'll have to wait till then. I have family with upgrades due already so I'll be very active with the phone until I get my hands on one for myself.

My thinking is that if I'm paying $199 as is any non-Sprint customers then I'm getting a discount since I'd be paying more if I was mid-contract, right?

The only cost showing on Sprints web site so far is the $199. I'm very curious to see what cost shows for pre-20th month Sprint customers on the "phones & devices" page once the phone goes up there.

June 3 (or was it 4?) is just around the corner, will any of the guys who got their phone on the first day keep, upgrade or change providers all together?

I'm still scouting the market for the next best thing, but I think I'm ready to change provider very soon. 4G in my area didn't materialize as I imagined it, even after 2 years. I'm paying almost $100/month including TEP, and I think I'm ready to scale down a bit as I don't really use too much data, nor do I call anyone that often. Oh well, any suggestions?

One thing is for sure, it should be an Android phone. I'm almost tempted to wait for the iPhone 5, but Navigation is vital for me and I don't want to buy an app just for it. I'm also considering the new windows phones, but I need to research on that part too.

I'm excited as in a little more than a month from now, I'll be having a new phone... Well maybe wait a little for a better phone not available right now... Haha!

As long as you are either a new customer signing a new contract or eligible for an upgrade and another 2 year contract you will be paying the $199.

If your not eligible for an upgrade you pay an early upgrade fee, they may be giving you a discount to get you to the same price as if you were eligible
