How not to root Android using Odin

maxima

Newbie
I thought this might be good place to ask, it is not related to a particular hardware...

I never used Odin before. I want to flash one stock ROM with another stock ROM.

I read that Odin roots Android automatically when flashing. Is it true all the time? Can I flash the ROM and not to root it?

This is more suitable for Android lounge but to answer your question you must be rooted inorder to change the ROM you have on your phone.

Maxima, What kind of phone do you have? Depending on your phone, you might not even need to use Odin, heck you might even be able to root your phone without even touching your computer, like my Droid 2 XD. the general methods are one click roots, like z4root app, and then flashing zips with the stock recovery, and then Odin. At least, thats the method I try when I get a new phone. It really depends, try Googling "How to root (your phone name) " Then you can install Clockwork Mod and install ROMS from there. Then, if you don't want to be Rooted, You MAY be able to unroot and keep the ROM. not 100% sure, research it before you try. theoretically it works in my mind though.

thanks for the answers

sorry perhaps i had to tell the whole story. i need to sell my galaxy tab 7.7 gt-p6800

i myself wont mind to be rooted. i just dont want the buyer then screw my brain for not able to get Kies updates.

so basically i want to replace HK firmware with EU firmware (as EU has ICS already and HK doesnt).

and keep the Kies be able to update in future.....

Greeting maxima,

Odin is one of the things that make Samsung devices some of the hardest to truly brick.

Odin in itself doesn't automatically root your phone, but it can allow you to totally replace the Rom and radios of a device.

I can't totally speak for your tab, because I've never used one, but if the Odin process works like on Samsung phones, all you have to do is find a original, unrooted Rom of the tab. Once you install it, the tab will be returned to the default state of the original Rom.

I'm not sure about the firmware swapping, somebody in the Galaxy tab forums, would be better at answering that question.

Hope this helps.
