So live wallpapers have been on the droid for a little while now, how often do you guys have them running on your phone?

I personally always am using it, but I actually didn't use them today and I noticed a big performance increase.. wow. But I love the look of them so I guess they're staying! ;)

What about you guys?!

I'm currently using the grass live paper. I like how it changes from day to night. There is some what of a performance issue but nothing too significant IMO.

When I try an new ROM and kernel I use live wallpapers to stress my phone (mainly to see how much the temperature rises) and do enjoy playing with new LWP's when I find them on the market. They are a great attention getter and I make sure I have them running when I show off my Droid. As far as for day to day use, I go back to standard wall papers. I have had too many freezes with live wallpaper running (although the new roms are allowing them to run much more reliably). I just can't afford to miss an import phone call just to have a little extra bling.

With an ESE53-based ROM, Live Wallpapers are truly seamless. I never used them before because of all the trouble they gave me, but now that I'm on Bugless Beast 0.7, I use the Neural Network wallpaper all the time, and I think it's awesome! :)

The blue Magic Smoke (that looks like lightning or plasma) just rocks on this screen. I use it constantly and do not notice any appreciable battery drain.

Stopped using them on older ROMs because of the lag, heat and battery drain, but on ESE53 ROMs they run like butter. Now LWP is on all the time.

they are pretty cool on the BB .7 rom. I use them and it takes 3% battery on the monitor that comes stock with the phone. not bad. i can charge it when i want so its cool

Really? I tried them to see how the new builds handle them. While the new ESE53 roms handle interactive LWP's much better than the older roms did...I have found they bog the screen transitions down. It may not be a lot by some people's standards...but I wouldn't call it seamless.

With the ESE53 screen transitions being so smooth...I just can't bog them down again using the LWP's.

LWP have a high novelty factor, but after that, I'd rather have that 12MB of RAM for keeping more programs open.

With LWP on, sometimes if I run a lot of apps and return to the homescreen, it takes a few seconds for all my widgets and icons to repopulate.

This has NEVER happened with just a static wallpaper.

So, I hardly ever have my LWP on anymore.

I use them to show off around the office. We have about fifteen Droids in the office now and I am the only one that rooted, so I like to make them a little jealous.

I initially liked the idea of LWP, however after running them for a bit I wasn't really feeling it anymore. I will turn them on when I show off the phone, but for general use, there's no real point. I find them distracting more than anything, and with a full screen of widgets/icons you can't really interact with (or see) them much anyway.

I have to agree with the concensus. I have tried them in previous roms and they seemed to bog-down the system. But now that I am on a ESE53 (BD 6.5) They work excelent and dont seem to have much of an effect on the system and battery life. I do love to show off the interactive part. My only gripe is that I really liked the nexus one interactive WP and now I only have the neutral network one.

I just barely put on 2.1, so my opinion might change, but I haven't noticed any performance hit with Live Wallpapers. I am using the water one and I like the user interaction it provides.

Right now they are on all the time and I don't see changing that.

Same...definitely have an impact on performance, even if it's only that scrolling apps in the app tray might stutter a little, that annoys me.

They are fun to show someone else, but lost their novelty pretty quickly for me. Just not a priority, though I get that others really enjoy them. To each his/her own. :)

ummmm hold on here can live wallpapers really cause you to not get calls? i havnt had any problems yet with them on the smoked glass v5 rom.

I think he's saying that if your phone just happens to freeze up or reboot because of Live Wallpapers at the moment you're getting a call, you'll miss that call. ;)

Doesn't seem to be much of an issue though. With ESE53, LWPs are really stable. I've been using Neural Network since I flashed BBeast 0.7 and I've had no problems.

I don't have many apps on my phone so even with LWPs running I have plenty of memory free. I haven't had a freeze up since upgading to BB.7 so I keep them on all the time.

I never use it anymore. I thought it was a pretty cool thing to mess around with at first, but battery life really is a priority to me, and I don't miss them enough to give up even 5 mins of battery life (:

I turn on the LWPs to show others, I really don't care for them myself. But, to each their own.

I wish I could change my vote. I'm so over the live wallpapers and most of the ones in the market SUCK. I'm surprised by the lack of creativity by the LWP developers. At this point, I only occassionally use them and typically it's only to show off. :D

Since using the Cyanogen ROM I am running LWP continually. The Nexus wallpaper runs flawlessly with no noticeable change in performance or temperature. Other LWP's (many that I have downloaded from the market) immediately raise my temp about 15 degrees and bog the system down. All live wallpapers are not created equally....
