Wow! As I've read these posts my heart has been saddened again and again. We have a heavenly Father who not only created this world in which we get to enjoy life, but then also sent his only son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins so that once we have enjoyed our life here we can go on to enjoy our eternity in an even better place, heaven! I don't have time this morning, I'm on my way to church, to "preach a sermon" but folks God does love you and he certainly wants to be your Saviour (nope it's not spelled incorrectly). It is a faith thing, "expect ye become as a little child" and no, you shouldn't use prayer as your "spare tire" but rather as your "steering wheel", using it all the time. Unfortunately too many people were raised with either no belief in God or a lackadaisical attitude of only acting like they believe in him so others around them or their parents would be impressed. I was raised in church, but with a very hypocritical stepfather (a pervert at home). It would have been very easy to get mad at God and walk away from him but you know what I learned? We give all the "credit" to God, but never give any of the credit to Satan. If you check him out, you'll find his number one job is to deceive you and ultimately ruin your life. Give him some of the credit. God wants only what is best for us, but he created each of with his own free will to choose and does not force himself on us, as is very evident with the many posts on here concerning this subject. But, please allow me to remind you once again, that no matter where you stand in your life God does love you and Jesus Christ did die on the cross for you and is ready, always, with open arms to give you the free gift of salvation if you simply ask him. If anyone cares to talk more about this please feel free to send me a private message.

Oh yes, how often do I pray? Several times a day, because I know he's the only one who can really help in every situation and I love him and usually we want to talk often to the people we love.

God bless you and open your eyes to his love for you!
I got to give it up to this guy..
After all the posts saying how they don't pray or trying to explain it all away. This took guts..

So, Frisco, what is your opinion on where the existence of man and the universe came from?

"You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything."

I was hoping a person of faith would come in and express those things.

I am not in agreement with it, as put forth in that post, however it's a needed portion of the discussion and great food for thought.

Hopefully you'll come to the same conclusion about opinions posted here that differ from yours. ;)

So, Frisco, what is your opinion on where the existence of man and the universe came from?

My instincts tell me to not settle on any one opinion about that. But I go against my instincts all the time. ;)

I've run the gamut, over time. The only thing that sticks through all the "God" stuff or big bang stuff is this: if the universe had a beginning out of nothing, we're challenged as to our perception of "nothing" or we're challenged as to how it came into being, which points to a creator.

If the universe in some form or myriad other is eternal itself, no creator is necessary and that settles the question.

I'm not religious, I don't "follow" a religion, but have no issues with those that do. Each to their own, and all that. I do believe in some kind of goodness in the world, and try and treat other people as I would like to be treated... someone said it was believing in karma? I dunno, whatever it is, I try to live my life what I see to be the right way.

+1 When I saw the post I was pretty shocked too. But its also been a civil thread like someone said. Which is pretty surprising.

Yeah I don't think anyone can really truly grasp the thought of nothing. The only way I can think to describe it is, have you ever been in a deep sleep and not dreaming, and when u wake up you can vaguely remember being in a state of nothingness in your sleep? Or am I the only one who has experienced that?

You are entitled to believe what you want, so long as you don't try to shove it down the throats of those who believe differently, but...keep in mind that what you believe is a belief. There isn't a scintilla of proof for anything in your statement.

And here we go......
In no way did I see him trying to "shove it down your throat" and your right, he may not have a shred of proof to back it up, BUT you also don't have a shred of evidence to disprove it either.

But your never dreaming nothing. Its just a matter of you cant remember it.

That could have been worded without the caustic nature to it, my friend.

Of course the post is that person's beliefs.

"..don't try to shove it down the throats..."

We're discussing this stuff with an air of respect for one another. It's been a great thread so far. ;)

I disagree, there have been many nights that I haven't dreamt anything.

I know, but I've been waiting on it.. normally topics like this just turn into fights. But I think so far, this has been a pretty good thread.

While your sleeping your brain is always active tho is my understanding. So in my opinion your not really in a state of "nothing" your body is just in like a shutdown mode. If you were in a state of "nothing" wouldn't it be theoretically impossible to wake you from that?

BUT you also don't have a shred of evidence to disprove it either.

This is a logical fallacy. You cannot prove a negative. However (in general terms here), the overwhelming majority of scientific evidence discovered to this day would show that there is more likely to not be a Christian god than there is one.

Furthermore I'd like to point out that there are literally thousands upon thousands of religions out there in the world. The chances that Christianity is actually the one true religion out of the mass amount of existing religions is so incredibly slim that it's quite narrow to think that it is. For all anyone knows, Zeus and Hades could be the correct gods, or Ra, Shiva, or even Allah.

Personally I'd rather figure things out for myself in my own life than follow an organized religion.

Same here.

Religions "organize" for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is power and control. It is people rising to power, not people necessarily rising to have a relationship with a higher power.

The "you" was the editorial you, not the specifically aimed at the poster you. I should have been more...specific. Sorry.

I posit it is unlikely there is any god.

Hello all, I guess I must clarify, I am not a "he" but a "she". If I came across as "shoving something down someone's throat" I do apologize. Also, I didn't mean it to come across that I was going to church to "preach a sermon" but rather I didn't have time to preach on here on the forum thread. :-)

I've personally seen God work in my heart and life many times. I've seen his blessings on my life and I've felt his presence when everything and everyone else has turned and walked away. I'm not talking about a "spooky" presence, but just that calm assurance of knowing that I've never alone. He promised to those who put their trust in him that he will never leave us or forsake us....Hebrews 13:5 (2nd half of the verse).

Science research has actually proven a lot of what we already know from the Bible. Of course most scientists are not quick to given up that information but if you want to find out some really interesting information to the Institution for Creation Research website and see all the things that science has "discovered" that was actually talked about in the Old Testament of the Bible.

I truly believe we are in the ends times so to speak and God's Word gives so many prophecies that we see coming true today. God wouldn't want to be shoved down anyone's throat and I wouldn't want to do that either, but if I saw your house burning down and you inside I would certainly want to do anything I could to save you and am pretty sure you would want me to. That is why I shared so openly about Jesus Christ dying on the cross so that you and I, no matter our race, creed or religion, could have the opportunity to receive the gift of eternal life. The Bible says in Romans 10:13 "For Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Wow! What a blessed promise from God!

Once again, if you are someone on here who has never heard the story of God's gift of salvation for you and you would like to talk more I would be happy to answer any questions either here on the thread or through private messaging.

So I'm the only one who has awoke with no sense of a dream or no sense of anything going on while sleeping?

Dunno.. I think we are just defining "nothing" differently. You wake up and you literally feel like your body just stopped functioning for 6-8 hours?
