Root How screwed is it?

Hello all, newbie to the forums, long time android user (g1 :)). Today i picked up an evo 4g for sprint. all looked good till i got home. Upon trying to factory reset it i discovered the phone was rooted. No big deal i thought. So when i went to reset it it kept erroring out because i didnt have the sd card in.

Now, how effed am i since the original sd card with root and other software bits is gone?

I can boot into the OS just fine, but i cannot reset it.

TIA

Usually you should be able to do a factory reset in the bootloader or recovery. You may need an SD card in the device in order to do this but any SD card should work you shouldn't need anything specific on the SD.

I thought this as well, i put a 8GB in it and ran recovery but hangs with a picture of a phone with a red triangle and exclamation point.

Flash an RUU that matches your h-boot version and it should fix it if you want it unrooted. If you wanted rooted we can help with that as well lol.

Edit: just though you may not know how to do that lol. All you need to do is find the RUU that matches your h-boot, you should be able to google it or I think it is in the rooting for dummies guide in the stikies section here. After that move it to your SD card and rename it PC36IMG.zip making sure not to do .zip.zip since windows hides extensions. Then boot to H-boot and tell it to update and you are done. Also I think this is in the rotting for dummies guide and it probably has more in depth instructions if you want them.

If you want it rooted you are going to have to get s-off, which you should be able to do if you follow the rooting for dummies guide, if not follow the instructions for flashing an RUU

It looks like you are not rooted and have a stock recovery. If the phone boot go to settings/ about phone / software and what does it say there?

all i want to do is wipe it!

Ok you are completly stock and unrooted. I think the only thing you can do is a factory reset
go to settings / sd & phone storage and there you can do a factory rest.
that will make the phone as it was new

oops i see you already tried that. Not shure where to go from there someone who does will post up just hang in here.
