How strong are you?

Would you rather have the Galaxy Note as is TODAY or would you prefer to wait a few months for a version that has Android 4.x and a Super Amoled Plus screen? These all seem to be quick doable upgrades, not like a quad processor. Would those upgrades be better for you to go another 2 years to the next monumental phone evolution?

If it was up to you, would you wait till Valentine's Day?

Your choice: December 31, as is and you keep that to 12/31/13 or get the updated version on 2/14/12 and keep it to 2/14/14?

What if it was 3/14/12?

Would Samsung do that upgrade with the Gingerbread & Super Amoled (not plus) versions of the Note going to Europe and Asia? How long would it take to write the ICS software for the Pen? I assume no changes would be necessary for the Plus screen as it's already there in the Samsung Galaxy S II.

Not quite as long as till the end of time but 2 years for a few months?

No, nothing to do with being strong.

I was strong to hold out waiting for either the Nexus Galaxy, Galaxy Note or iPhone 4S whilst stuck with a Nokia N8 as the main phone for 4 months and resisting the urge of just getting something on the interim, now THATS STRENGTH.

Why is that strength? Because the Nokia N8 was awesome for its Camera, GPS , HDMI out and media playing, but IT WAS SINGLY THE WORST SMARTPHONE there is and it was SO frustrating using it as the main device.

I waited for the milestone products, but the upgrade to these milestone products I personally dont think is worth waiting and holding out for.

Hope that all made sense.

T sport,

Sure it makes sense but I think the Note with those two additions, ICS & SAmoled+, are at the current edge of tech before real dramatic changes will be made. Processors can get a little faster, screens can get a little better but nothing worth not upgrading for. I think those two changes take the Note to a great point of satisfaction, unless there is something I don't understand about SAmoled + or ICS.

However, the N8 was not a good phone and maybe you bought it before all the negative revelations happened.

I understand that, but I think if you consider what are the gains of waiting:

  • ICS - My Note will eventually official get ICS anyway and currently ICS is nothing but teething issues (no flash etc)
  • SAMOLED+ - Personally i can have no issue with this particular pentile, the PPI makes it very un-noticable. I used to dislike the original Galaxy S pentile screen after viewing it for a while, but i dont have a problem with the note

Seeing it like that kind of reiterates why i dont think is worth waiting, or i think that you will never get anything and could spend always waiting for something better.

T,

I never used the Pentile display but I don't understand why they put the non plus on a phone with then pen.

Actually, I'm not forever looking for the best because when the Note comes out, I'll buy it, whatever version. If it comes out "as is" then it won't be before the middle of next year before they will release an updated version. So I am not waiting.

However, if the phones aren't assembled yet, then I am talking to Samsung and Verizon to do it right and put in the better screen and the better OS. I'd rather start off with ICS than first go to Gingerbread and then ICS.

I may be wrong here. If they come out with Gingerbread now there are programs I need that are avaialbe right now, Companion Link, and Documents To Go. I don't know that these are available for ICS. although the Nexus might help getting those out. They really give us no information!

As for the N8... I was allured by the build quality, camera and full data free voice guided GPS. The phone has major strengths but fails on the most basic things, like browsing was simply awful and the phone crashes daily. It handles calls horribly and the screen is frustratingly un-responsive.

This may sound strange, but i bought it thinking its strength will be able to carry all its weakness, but in fact the weaknesses are simply unforgivable for a flagship phone. Nokia got it very wrong with it.

For the pentile issue - Because its an easy and viable upgrade path for the next one along. That was the tactic seen on Galaxy S and S2, it will ALWAYS be like this.

ICS needs some maturity, simple as that. But i agree that when it is it should be the bee's knees!

That's because the "flagship" is supposed to be the N9.

I'll be waiting for one to be formally launched here in the States. Hopefully by then it'll just come with ICS and maybe a few other neato things, like NFC. I won't be changing carriers for it though, so I'll wait til it comes to Sprint.

First of all g-note is super amoled HD which is the first of its kind and i tried it in the store the screen is amazing secondly the note (this quoted by samsung itself) it getting ISC along with the S2 and a few other sammy phones. So its not strength at all. You either like this big boy or you dont. You dont say to your self hmm its too big for me but maybe ill just wait for an "x" peice of hardware or software then it'll feel smaller. Its either you love the size and you buy it ASAP or you get an S2 or the Nexus. I saw it in the store and i said naw ill just get an S2 and it was a great choice.

Totally agree. A few months ago I went to a Verizon store think about getting a crappy phone and an IPad, the phone is the least of what I use a smartphone for. Then came the Note and for me, it did it all and more things that I'm not even aware of yet. As you say, size is the issue or I'd get the Nexus. I have no need for the pen but I want a large beautiful screen. In this case, the eyes have it.

I am also excited about getting an Android and that's really a surprise to me but with Companion Link and Documents To Go, it's a great phone for me.

I am more than happy to wait, but then I already have a big phone :D Since we are moving, I want to wait until we move to see what networks has the best coverage too. I am not the one to go out and buy the next best thing when it first comes out anyway. I had a Blackberry Curve for 3 years before moving on to my Dell Streak.

For the record, the Streak is actually a little larger than the Note, although the Note is fatter, which might make it harder to fit in a pocket.

Note.....Streak...Diff
146.85...152.9....-6.05...mm
..82.95.....79.1.....3.85....mm
....9.65....10.......-0.35.....mm

Yes it is ugly indeed. What's uglier is that it's permanent and there's no way to remove that "stain".

If you leave the screen on with a particular image for too long, this may result.

All Amoled screens are very much prone to this, it's only a matter of time. You may find this interesting: Samsung Galaxy SII SAMOLED display burn in - OLED screen persistence, retention S2 - WebDevSys

Its less enjoyment more being worried! Damn it!
Now Im left confused looking at My N900!

If burn-in is a problem for all SAmoled screens, why not use something else? The reason I want the Note is because it has a big bright screen and I don't want to mitigate the problem by making it as dark as possible.

Are there other screens that are brilliant and do not have a burn-in problem?

I am actually looking for something else. LG Nitro's screen looks nice, as almost all youtube reviews say. LCDs will not have this problem, as far as I know.
