Help How the hell are y'all getting 12 plus hours on battery?

What radios are you talking about exactly? I don't know much about the workings of the phone. Also i'm guessing this is a dumb question but without 3g i'll still have data, just the 1x thing, right?

3G radio is for internet and stuff, phone radio is for calls and texts.

So yeah, just turning off 3G, you'll still be able to receive calls and texts.

I keep everything off (except data) and keep the brightness low (unless I'm outside) and that really saves me a lot of battery.

I only turn on 3G when I need to look something up and I'm near a PC.

Flashed the ultra mix rom earlier today and after 8 hours battery life seems to be much better. Trying to drain and refill to properly calibrate

how long your phone has been on doesn't mean squat, it's how long your screen is on compared which is important, for me I go to work at 6am, don't use my phone except maybe a text or two on my 2 - 10min breaks, and maybe 3-4 txts on my 20min lunch (paid, lol)... get off at 2pm and my battery will be at 95-98%, as soon as I get home and start using my phone, within 1hr 1/2hrs my phone is almost dead, then I open battery stats, click on screen and it shows "on" right around 1hr 1/2...

on standby with my phone in my pocket at work, or after I had surgery it lasted almost 3days and still had juice (because I couldn't use it)...

I have: wi-fi on (all times)
3g when not home
screen brightness 100%
live wallpaper
tons of widgets, but not of this matters for my phone when it's in standby, at least according to the battery it doesn't...

so check your "screen on" time and see what that says, because that's when your actually using your phone.

I downloaded the battery mix app today after I saw one of y'all talking about it... Usually I go to work with 100 percent and come back in the 30-50 percent range.... Today I left with 91 and came home with 72!!!!! That app gets 5 stars in my book.

I have always had very good luck with running Juice Defender Ultimate, besides the battery savings I believe that it's also helped eliminate the radio resource errors by toggling my data on and off in the background every 15 minutes. If you really want to get in there and get your hands dirty you can use Tasker instead.

I'm still hoping for that magic setting that will give me more that 4-5 hours of use on a fully charged battery. I have battery mix and juice defender, no 4g, screen at 40%, no live streaming of video or music, have been only reading news and posts on sites, no Facebook, and yet after 2 hours I have gone from 100 % to 61%. I am stock everything with no root also.

try these apps that will help you all out Fast reboot(a app killer the best one out there)
sense analog clock(turn off everything but the clock so no weather or anything)

App killers are not advised. Android is developed to kill apps on its own when it needs the resource. You're basically fighting the system with them. Also, even the developers of Android advise against using them, as they could possibly do harm..

Thanks for the advice anyway.

Without a doubt the biggest battery drain on the phone BY FAR is the screen.

Mine easily goes 48 hours + without actually using the screen with everything turned on including sync and getting 2-3 emails every few minutes. With constant use it will get 4-5 hours.

It does not matter what you are actually doing, as long as the screen is on it will quickly drain the battery.

If you are getting heavy battery use when the screen is off then check your awake times to see if something is constantly waking your phone from deep sleep. You can see it in the battery stats.

You do realize that the 3G radio and the phone radio are the same thing on CDMA phones, right? Turning off 3G just means your phone won't use any network data. They both use the 1900 MHz PCS radio. If you have very low signal and your phone is constantly trying connect to the tower, you'll drain your battery just as fast whether 3G is on or off. There are places in the building I work in where I will put my phone into flight mode because if I don't, the phone will die in a just a few hours. You can tell if the phone gets warm to the touch when it's just sitting there doing nothing. You also don't need to turn off the GPS because it doesn't actually use the GPS radio unless you're actively using it. (when you see the little satellite dish icon when using google maps)

Maybe on paper that is the case, or even for your particular phone.
As for me, all I know is that when I turn off 3g, my battery consumption is cut way down, and the temp steadys around 83

When I turn off what I would call the data portion of 3G, my phone doesn't sync as often and safes battery. I agree that it is a savings to turn it off if you are not using it. I have WiFi at home and work, so I hardly use data.

I have always found cell phones to quickly drain their batteries when searching for signal. Even my tracfone would die in one day riding my motorcycle around the back roads of Vermont. That battery was good for a week in my normal area.

Given the amazing flexibility of smart phones, and their poor battery life, I just combined the two. I haven't had a good test of this yet, but I might know more after next week. I have setup Tasker so that when I loose signal it goes into Airplane mode for 20 minutes. It then tries to connect for 2 minutes, repeat until signal returns. It seems to work fine inside my local walmart, when signal is lost. My assumption is that it should use 90% less power in poor signal conditions.

Going touring next week. I assume I will have poor signal at times.

Signal strength makes a huge difference too. If you have your phone in weak coverage areas, it really has to pump up the tx just to stay connected to the network.

Exactly. With the data on in a weak signal area, my phone is like it's running a marathon in 100

  • MidnightRom 1.1.6
  • SetCPU, clocked down all the way when the screen is off, and clocked down quite a bit from 2AM to 7AM
  • Screen brightness either off or on auto most of the time
  • Wifi on whenever I'm near a familiar network
  • Only the syncs I need enabled
  • Airplane mode when I have poor reception and/or am going to be away from the phone for awhile
  • GPS always enabled (won't turn on unless it needs to, check the battery stats for proof)
The screen is still the biggest battery killer. Funny story, a few days ago I was away from home and my battery was at 2%. I turned off wifi, 3G, and sync, turned the screen off, and when I got home about 5 hours later it was still at 2%.

To do this I turn of 4G and mobile data. so you can still get calls and texts but data won't be syncing in the background

I feel you, my phone usually lasts about 8-9 hours if I do not use it at all, if I use it then it will last about an hour or a bit more before it goes from 100% to 10%. My battery usage says usually 60+% is the screen which is odd cause the brightness is set to low but despite that my battery dies so fast I carry two batteries around.

Go to wifi and don't allow it to be on all the time. Or you could ever turn wifi off altogether that's what was killing my battery before. Now I get over 15 hours with heavy usage.

Reset your battery stats and then look into what apps/widgets you have installed.

How do you set taker to do this?
