Help How to add Google Talk to my Google Apps account?

mbobak

Lurker
Hi all,

I'm an Android newbie. Just switched from iPhone 3gs, to an Atrix 4g running Android 2.2.

So. one of the first things I want to do is get my access to Marketplace and Gmail setup. Both of these require a Gmail account.

That's fine, I have a Gmail account, but, it's a Google Apps account. So, my email address isn't mbobak@gmail.com, it's mark@bobak.net. When I try to use this account to connect to Marketplace or Gmail on my phone, I get the following error: "The account cannot be used on the phone because it is missing the following application: Google Talk."

I've been looking high and low, and I have no idea how to add Google Talk to my Google Apps account. Can someone offer me a clue? I've been googling and searching through Google Apps help, with no luck.

Can anyone offer me a clue?

Thanks,

-Mark

This issue has been resolved, finally.

Thanks Google for making things so intuitive! (Not!)

Error says I don't have "Google Talk" enabled. What? Google Talk? Not Google Voice? No, that's something different. What's Chat? It doesn't say Talk, so it must not be what I'm looking for.

Long story short, if you enable 'Chat' in Google Apps, that turns on Google Talk!

I wonder how many more ways Google can confuse it's customers?

Sigh....

I'm just happy it's working!

I'm a bit perplexed about this, as well. I did login to my gmail account with my computer. From there, I could install a plugin that makes Google talk work on my computer. It shows me which of my contacts has it and who is logged in. It includes video, so you can actually have video chats. However, you can't call anyone unless they are logged into their accounts from their computer - kind of like with Skype to Skype calls.

I have no idea how this ties into the cellphone, though. I'd love to hear if you can make calls from your cellphone to another cellphone - and how I would do this.
