how to back up photo albums vs gallery

How do I back up photo albums within the gallery? I didn't realize they were saved different and did a factory reset on the phone and lost them all. I assume they are saved within the internal memory and not to the SD card like the pictures?

If it matters, I use a Macbook.

What you see in Gallery is what Media Scan picks up from both internal and external storage. There's no "Gallery" folder. If you want to back up what's in internal storage you use Kies, or you find the folders the pictures are in using a file manager like ES File Explorer or Total Commander (or Airdroid if you want to do iit on a PC) and back them up to something.

So am I correct in saying the pictures themselves are on the SD card but the separation into albums is stored on the internal storage? Is there anyway to get the albums to save on the SD card?

The pictures are in storage - on the internal SD card, on the external SD card, on anywhere in storage. The "albums" are the folders the pictures are in. So if you make a "thisalbum" folder and put some pictures in it, you should see a "thisalbum" album in Gallery with those pictures.

As far as where a picture saves, that depends on what's saving it - the camera, a picture editing app, whatever you're using. In the stock camera app, in settings, there's another "gear", and there's a storage location in there, either device (internal) or card (external).

My question is - how do you get the phone to save them in the same place..or can you? I can locate all my pictures on the sd card but have to go to the internal memory to view the albums.
