Root How to backup apps and their data?

I want to get MIUI on my phone, but I want to backup apps and its data first so I don't have to start all over. Is this possible? How do I do it? Thanks

there are some back up apps on the market, "Titanium Backup" is a popular one though.
in titanium back up, go to the "back up/restore" section and then push the options button to find "batch" and go through to find the option you want.
