Help How to backup apps etc?

I want to upgrade firmware so before that wanted to backup my stuff.Any suggestions how you did and the best way,defenitely free.Thanks
 
I downloaded the app "AppMonster Free." It backs up all your apps so you can do the update, then you can install them back on your phone after the update.
