Root How to best root my Eris

Hope I don't get in trouble for cross-posting - I put this in the main Eris forum and had 185 views but no replies:

Rooting the HTC Eris

I want to root my droid Eris. Here are my reasons:

1.) Run faster and smoother
2.) Run more apps, run them from the SD card.
3.) Do more multi-tasking, i.e. have apps running "in the background", ready to call up quickly.

Are all of these practical on that device?

If so, will some of you make a specific recommendation as to which version of Android, which ROM, and, most importantly, which of the many methods availble here to use to achieve rooting?

Thanks,

No problem, radsboy...the non-root folks who are still around probably didn't know how to answer you. I've deleted your other, duplicate thread in lieu of this one here.

I would suggest that you have a look at this thread as a great first place to get started (it's a great rooting method, too):

http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/127861-universal-eris-root-dummies.html

I'm sure there'll be other Eris root folks along here soon that will have some great ROM suggestions for you (you can also read through the last few pages of the above thread for some good information).

Cheers and good luck!

radsboy,

The only thing that you won't end up doing is #3 in your list - the Eris never really had quite as much RAM as Android really needs, and in fact runs a little better with the Android LMK (Low Memory Killer) parameters increased a bit from the Eris defaults.

As for ROMs I would suggest any of Condemned Soul's CM7 series. (I use v21, and am unlikely to make any further changes).

Good luck,
