Help How to control 4 front panel button illumination

The darn things are never lit when I need them...is there a way to keep them on all the time, more often, or when I need them? Had the same issue with MotoDroid...
 
Never thought about the light sensor. Thought my DI was having intermittent connection problems in some light conditions. No need to go to VZW tomorrow.

Thanks! I've been trying to figure out what those were to the left of the Verizon logo.

One's a ambient light sensor, the other is a proximity sensor (so that when the phone gets close to your face, the screen goes black to prevent you from accidentally hitting something)
