How to create a reproducible problem?

My wife's Desire as a terrible intermittent reception issue. The phone cuts in and out during calls even with a strong signal, occasionally even to the point of dropping the call. We have replacement coverage on our phones, however, the store was unable to reproduce the issue with just a couple of calls. We were told that they have had several complaints for this problem but unless they can reproduce the problem to show the manager they cant exchange the phone.

The cutting out occurs often enough that it is a really annoying problem. The staff at the store where we bought them hinted that they would be able to replace it when she came back with a problem that they could verify. I hate to have to be dishonest in order to get a phone replaced for a legitimate problem but is there a way to create a problem in this phone that would be reproducible? Most anything that isn't physical damage will work. Screen issues, blown speaker, etc.

I'll start by saying unfortunately I can't help with your issue. I just wanted to mention another similar issue I'm having with the internet connection.

Every so often (roughly once every few days, but sometimes about three times every half an hour), this happens....

I navigate to a website, or hit the sync button, or do something else that requires internet access, the little up arrow flashes once (nothing from the down arrow), 2 seconds, flashes once again, 2 seconds, then finally the up arrow lights up and stays lit up for ages, and just hangs there. For this period of time, I cannot get onto the internet at all (as if it's stuck in some kind of "requesting" state).

The only way I can clear it is by waiting for 3 or so minutes for it to sort itself out, or by flicking it into aeroplane mode, and back out again. (Even this can take a while to find the network again sometimes.

T mobile's advice is to take the battery out, wait for 10 seconds, and put it back in. Beyond that there's nothing much more they can do.
