How To: Custom Icons For Your Droid X

With the Beautiful Widgets weather you can have it follow your location through the GPS. The wallpaper can be found in the Flikie Wallpaper HD app. I wrote the instruction as though the person following them had no clue about any of it. I figured it would just be that much more helpful. There are no real "benefits" other than having your phone set up exactly how you want it.

As far as apps I have 80+ apps on my phone and it does not hinder the performance at all so don't be afraid to download and install any apps that you want to try.

1. "Beautiful Widgets" - Is that the name of the widgets, or are you saying they look good (sorry, I'm a newbie...hence the stupid questions)

2. I love the HD app (Wallpaper). But it says Devices with Low memory may encounter perfomance issue! That tells me it uses A LOT of memory and battery. Even though DX has good speed/memory, it will still take a lot of Juice, I'm assume! - Is that True?

3. That IS the benefit - having the phone set up as you'd want it. Unfortunately, I don't know what how to set up, or what kind of set up will help me, in what ways... But I get what you're saying. Thanks.

4. 80+ apps ?!! Wow!! Then again, people who get iphones, and Droids mainly get them for apps, and multifunctional device... instead of a simple phone. So, appearently my phone must be bad if it had performance issues, and got jitters, freezing, etc - had nothing to do with apps, right.

THANKS so much for helping out! :)

can any1 point me to custom Car Dock icons?'

in car dock v2 then standard icons arent big enough so its choppy looking

Hoping you can help a newbie to Droid X...

I'm desperately trying to install Dreamlyfe's awesome theme/icon pack. But LauncherPro isn't recognizing any of the files.

I've tried placing them in various folders on the SD card, including the DCIM folder, but it doesn't recognize any of the images- they just don't show up as an image option in LauncherPro.

What am I doing wrong?

ETA: All set!

link is not working..

Can i change my icons without using Launcher Pro??

MediaFire is down at the moment. You can change home screen icons with bettercut and apps organizer without LP but you won't be able to change dock icons.

I'm not sure if others have experienced this when using custom icons, but when I update apps via the Marketplace, as soon as the updates are finished installing, the icon for the app on my homescreen redirects itself to its default icon. It's not a huge deal, but it's annoying having to change icons constantly, especially how long it takes BetterCut to boot up and retrieve a listing of all my apps.

I've also noticed that I cannot use custom icons for either Google Places or Navigation without the programs not running.

airmaxx, I'm stuck on this part

4: Press the menu button again and select "tools"(E), "Application Manager/Backup"(F), then select the app that contains your icons and press "backup"(G).

I don't know which app has the icons, I just saved it to my download folder.

Ps- I have around 25 AirMax, 90's,95's lights & 1's for sale if interested.. lol

If you have them on your SD card already you're all set, just go to the section you need next (dock icons, homescreen or group).

Finally this thing gets updated....!!! THANK YOU FOR THE LITTLE DROID ICONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also thanks for ingnoring my request earlyer!!

YEEEEEEEEEY!!!!!

then the icons are in your downloads. you have to copy and paste them to the icons folder you made. I downloaded the file directly to my phone from my web browser and this is what i had to do. it took me forever to figure it out. try to tell you from memory....open your downloads file in astro and you should see Droid.zip, open it. menu->tools->copy then go back to your icons file you made and open it. menu->tools->paste. hope this works if not ill go back and do it again to get it step by step. i might be forgeting something...

It should be noted that you can now use custom icons for home screen shortcuts using LauncherPro v0.7.8.1 (the latest version as of this post). The feature is available in the free version though the app is so fantastic I couldn't imagine not having LauncherPro Plus (paid version). There is no need for Bettercut unless you like additional features that it provides.

From LauncherPro's website:
New: Ability to use custom icons and labels on homescreen shortcuts. Long-press on a homescreen and choose

anybody have any trouble changing the message icon. i'm using bettercut and every time i try to change it, it immediately goes back to default icon

everything else works fine

I'm using desktop visulaizer for my custom icons. I wanted larger ones, so I add a desktop visulizer 1x2 widget, select my icon image, and the app, and then resize it to whatever I want in launcher pro plus.

For instance, my music icon is 2x2 now, so I can easily select it when its in my car dock.

Does anyone know how to change icons for widgets though? I wanted a larger icon for beautiful brightness, because when my screen is too dim to see, I need something larger as a quick fix for that.

ok guys. Silly question but i fully understand how to use better cut and launcher pro etc.. to change my icons. Do it all the time... BUT my issue is i can only use icon packs or pictures that are already in my gallery... For example I download all the little droids and make a folder for them but i cannot for the life of me get it to show in my gallery so i can select them for an icon... anyone have any ideas on to why this might happen?? Ive even tried pasting them into a folder that shows in my gallery but the poor little guys are just ignored.

Stupid question here. What is the difference between the dock icons and the home screen icons? I am really new to this. You have great instructions. I want to change the stuff on the very bottom of my phone. Is that the dock icons? Thanks

the two icons to the left and right of the app drawer launcher are the dock icons. then you have a 4x4 grid to place home screen icons. You have to use a home replacement like launcher pro or adw launcher in order to change the dock icons
