Help How to disable default messaging application in android2.2

I installed new handsms application in android,but when ever i got message its showing in both default mesaging application and my new application.Can any one help how to make use only one message application

Go into the default app, tap Menu, Settings, and unchecked everything.

I have a Optimus S and I use GO SMS Pro. You don't need to uncheck everything. Go to factory messaging>settings>notification settings>and uncheck message notifications. That'll do Italy

i have the T, and its impossible to defeat the default messaging app.
