Help how to disable/stop apps from auto closing?

I took my volt on a road trip for the first time today, and more then once the navigation app just quit while open. Never seen this happen on any previous android phone where google maps, or any other program will just all of a sudden just quit and have the phone go back to the home screen. Sure made listen to music a pain too, since mid song it'll just stop, and if your going down the interstate at speed you really can't do anything about it (or atleast i'm not insane enough to).

Not sure wassup, I use copilot live and just drove 45min without a hitch.

-=Thanks are always appreciated and Happy Modding=-

Waze and Maps both work fine for me. Don't really listen to music on it, but I've not had any apps just up and quit on me. Any error messages?

I've been having that same problem with Waze, Gems with Friends, and Ingress. Though at this point they just open and immediately crash out. I've even factory reset to no avail.

After the factory reset I installed waze just in case that was the problem, still the same problem. The funny thing is I used waze right after I got the phone when I went to Baton Rouge, with no problems, then out of nowhere it crashed out, having that and those two other apps so the same thing caused me to do a factory reset. It did notice that the buildprop edit I made to enable swype on the LG keyboard was still there after the factory reset. I'm pretty sure my Samsung cleared buildprop edits on factory resets, I'm just not sure about this one. And I did the factory reset from within Android instead of through the recovery. I'm not sure if that would make a difference or not

Since I was driving at the time I don't know if any errors showed up right after, but when I had a chance to check there wasn't anything.

Have either of you uninstalled any system apps?

100% stock untouched, I've had it for only a little over a week.

Before this I haven't knowing had this happen to me during normal use.

I have the same problem too I was looking it up because I use the moga controller app and it can't stay open for no longer then 5 minutes then it disconnect because the app stop running in the background but I got this root app called memory keeper it worked for a bit but not every time....sooo. I need help too

So after having apps like Google Maps, Stitcher, and Pandora, just shut down randomly and just by pressing the home button, I contacted LG directly via live chat. I was told that the LG Volt cannot run more than one app at a time. See below for transcript.

9:32 AM Ross : and the phone will close the app 9:33 AM Amy: Which app? The Google Map app? 9:33 AM Ross
that is one of them yes

but it also does it with apps like pandora 9:33 AM Amy: Yes, if you press the home button this will take you out of whichever app you have open and will take you back to the homescreen. 9:34 AM Ross: correct but it should not CLOSE the app and force me to reinput the information 9:34 AM Amy: It will close the app. 9:34 AM Amy: This is how all of our phone's work. 9:35 AM Ross: well thats pretty useless. how do you use more than one app at a time 9:35 AM Amy: You can press the menu key for options, but the home key will take you back to the home screen and close whichever app you have open. 9:35 AM Ross : ?

9:36 AM Ross
So how do you use more than one app at a time? 9:36 AM Ross: This is something I did consistently on other android phones 9:36 AM Amy: Can't. 9:36 AM Ross: Sorry to hear that. I will return it and purchase something else then 9:37 AM Amy: The only apps you'll be able to run while you are using something else, would be with the musicplayer.

I am using a stock LG Optimus F3. I experienced the same thing with the stock "Maps" app on two, 10+ hour trips. I was only running the Maps app. and it would not stay running for more than an hour. Each hour I would have to restart it. Very Frustrating. I guess no point in using the Maps app on long trips. I need to buy a GPS unit I suppose. :(

interesting, how does qslide work then? since that's literally apps running on top of other apps.

In day to day use I haven't had this issue, and slacker radio for example doesn't seem to be affected, as I was able to run it for hours.

Next road trip is Thursday where I can test the long term navigation issue, though i'll have my EVO 3D with freedom pop service as a backup this time.

Well that's a BS answer. They were just trying to get rid of you, or didn't know what they were talking about. I constantly run multiple apps and the phone even has multitasking settings. The calculator and remote apps (and a few others) can even be taken out of full screen so you can have multiple visible apps. That being said, with only a GB of RAM, if you run out of memory, which can happen easily, it will close inactive apps in the background.

I would hope that the Maps app would not be considered "inactive" when it is running, screen on, and showing the progression down the road.

Sorry, I wasn't saying it got closed due to being flagged as inactive, especially if it is up front and center... Although if it is being incorrectly marked... Was just pointing it the multitasking capability of the phone and got a bit rambly. :p is there any way to do a RAM test? You could have a memory problem.

okay... having the same issue. however, it seems to only happen:

- when i am running pandora in conjunction with maps
- when i am running pandora in conjunction with waze
- when i am running pandora and i open camera to take a picture

in these instances, pandora will force close when i open the other apps. sometimes, maps or waze will close. seldomly, pandora will force close when a text tone comes through. about 25% of the time, pandora will be able to play properly in conjunction with maps or waze navigating for some time before one of the apps decides to randomly force close.

not sure if i'm right... but i have a hunch that this has to do with using two apps that have some sort of audio coming from them. i.e., pandora playing music, maps navigating... pandora playing, shutter sound on camera.

and really... if that tech was right about the LG Volt not being able to run more than one app at a time (which sounds like total BS to me too) then why the f was this phone even made?

i think murf1 might be onto something with this:

So today I opened maps started navigation, leaving it up front from that point on with the screen on and I happened to notice at about an hour and 4mins or so my screen was no longer on and maps had closed. I'm wondering if the phone auto closes apps that sit idle for an hour? I guess a way to check would be to do something with the app at like a half hour in or so and see if it still closes at the original hour or not.

maps doesn't tend to do that unless i'm running it with pandora. or curiously, when i answer a text. but this is starting to bug me. i drive a lot for work and a proper working navigation + music is essential for my sanity. if no one can find a fix for this i'm going back to my LG F3 for the time being.

I've had Waze and Maps both running and navigating simultaneously for 4+ hours with without either one closing. Could you guys have a power management app that's interfering?

hmm...I don't use pandora, and don't text much so can't really test either of those cases. For me navigation was the only thing knowingly running, no music app or anything else.

Not that I know of. How often are you interacting with those apps during the 4+ hours they run?

I've had similar things happen to me, turns out it's a running out of RAM issue, at least for me. I had had the Buffalo Bills app running listening to the game, I then opened up my gmail and when I then opened Dolphin browser the Bills app closed in the background. As soon as it happened I looked at my recents list and saw I only had about 60Mb of RAM free. After clearing out my recents I could listen to the game, open Gmail, and Dolphin browser. As far as Pandora, the only thing I've noticed is that if I get a sound notification while I'm listening to Pandora through my car stereo, it's stops sending music to the stereo. I quick pause then play restores it. But it doesn't close the app. Not sure if this is the case for you or not, just my 2

Very little... In one scenario, I was driving. In the other I was just using Waze to track mileage while on a work trip during which time I was reading on my tablet that I had tethered to the phone.
