I've been meaning to make a video and attach it to the op because it seems that most people will use the zips regardless of whether they know what they are doing or not. Its just that something always comes up.

I guess I should check and see if there are any YouTube videos already posted that explain everything to my satisfaction. If I find one that I feel is good enough I'll add it to the op.

Well what exactly do you want on the video I'll make it right now with your guidelines ?

just want to say thank you for these I didn't think I would need them but I have used them at least a dozen times by now lol I use them to gain RW and then I installed ad away and modified the system hosts file then I used the restore zip and now i have no ads ;)

THESE FILES HAVE BEEN TESTED ON METROPCS ZTE ZMAX (Z970). I AM NOT SURE ABOUT T-MOBILE OR ANY OTHER VARIANT.

I would like provide some files to achieve r/w permissions on CM 12.1 RC2<--(THIS WILL ONLY WORK ON THAT VERSION). All credit goes to @Masterchief87 as he made the files. all I did was replace the boot.img on both zips. This follows the same procedures as his files.

For anyone who may be using switcher zips for rw on cm12.1 it is best to not report bugs because any problems you may experience could have been caused by modifications that you have made instead of being issues with the ROM.

Masterchief87, since we have been sitting at RC2 for a minute, and hroark13 says he has no idea when he will change to RC3, any chance you could make the zip files for the T-Mobile variant to get r/w on RC2? I want to try it, but won't do it without r/w

There is a zip for the tmobile its in the cm12.1 thread somewhere in there u have to search
It doesn't matter what variant of the zmax these switcher zips have been tested on. Whether your phone is T-Mobile metropcs or Univision has nothing to do with it. Whether the zips work properly for you depends solely on which boot.IMG is packed inside and which ROM the boot.IMG is for.

That is EXACTLY why I asked you about making them. I trust what you and hroark13 put out. I've used your zip files for BNv2 since the day you first posted them. I trust your work. And the only reason I asked about this one particular is because I know there are different zips for metro and tmobile on stock and BNv2

Just rooted my zmax and havent flashed any type of rom ..still on stock, so i can flash the either of these metro pcs files? Iam running rooted sttock rom on metro.. just want to clarify I do not have butternoob if that is a custom rom. I am guessing this will work with metro stock or metro running butternoob rom? Thanks man in advance for all you have done as well as others. Did I see someone say this has not been tested on the ZTE zmax z970?

I am booted into recovery with bootswittcher zip and should have r/w access but when I try to delete ringtones from system using astro file manager it is not deleting the ringtones from my system/medi/audio/ringtones folder.. am I supposed to enable r/w with root explorer or something like that as I had to do in the past?

Also, did you flash the MetroPCS switcher zip and then reboot recovery?
actually I did I flashed the switcher and then I rebooted holding down the volume up and power so I could get read write access..... I tried using twrp file manager to view my /system/media/audio/ringtines but everytime I go to /system the folder seems empty.. then I looked at mount option in twrp and it shows cache boot data mounted but system is un checked..do I need to mount system to edit system folder?

Hroark told me I need to have system mounted to access it in twrp.. thanks to all of you guys for your help...prevented a brick on my end
